Survey of the Monmouthshire estate of Philip, fourth earl of Pembroke and Montgomery, freehold and leasehold, made from presentments to a general survey made by Sir James Palmer, his steward general, under a commission dated 6 Chas. I and 1630. The survey covers premises in the manors, parishes and boroughs of Abercarn, Basaleg, Bedwas, Bedwellte, Caerleon, Coedcernyw, Dowles. Llanfihangel-y-fedw, Machen, Malpas, Marshfield, Mynyddislwyn, Newport, St Brides, St Mellons, St Woolloos, Tryleg, Usk and Wentlloog. The Caerleon and Newport boroughs are arranged by street; in the borough of Usk only the total rents due from tmts in the various streets are given. Annotations were made at least until 1665 (p. 30).

The principal sales are (i) of the manor of Dyffryn in the parishes of St Woolloos, St Brides, Betws and Basaleg, and tenements and lands in the parishes Basaleg, Mynyddislwyn, Machen, Bedwas and Bedwellte to William Morgan of Tredegar, esq.; (ii) a m. and lands (50 a.) in the parish of Malpas formerly in the tenure of Henry Morgan of Pen-hw, gent., to Edward Morgan, esq., brother of the said William Morgan; (iii) Dowles Park or New Park and lands (112 a.) in the parishes of Marshfield, Llanfihangel-y-fedw and Basaleg, to Edmond Gamage, esq.; and (iv) messuages and lands called Y Gelly Wastad (100 a.) in the parish of Machen and Tir y Werne Wrangog (40 a.) in the parish of Bedwas to John Grenuff, esq. -- On ff. 178-183 is a copy of the degree of Wisewood, 22. Dec. 1581, in a cause in Chancery between Walter Morgan of 'Wolph', esq., Walter Powell, esq., Thomas Probert, David Johnes and Thomas Yorath, gents, and others, inhabitants of the lordships and manors of Usk, Caerleon and Tryleg and their members of Tre-grug, Edeligion, 'Ledvenyd' and 'Lisiverit', all Monmouthshire, querents, and Henry, earl of Pembroke, defendant.
