The learning lark

The file comprises correspondence, 1958-1961, 1966 and 1978, including draft letters by Glyn Jones, relating to The learning lark (London, 1960), mostly from the publishers, J. M. Welsh heirs

The file comprises an incomplete typescript draft, [c. 1975] of Welsh heirs (Llandysul, 1977), with galley proofs and page proofs, [1976x1977], containing manuscript corrections in the hand of Glyn Jones, and correspondence, including draft letters by Glyn Jones, and other related papers, 1977-1978. Some of the stories included in the book were written and published many years earlier. In addition, the file contains correspondence, 1982-1984, regarding Russian translations of the stories 'Myra Powell' and 'Rhysie at Auntie Kezia's', including an introduction by Glyn Jones to a collection of translated short stories by Welsh authors; and a typescript 'Brief words about the Anglo-Welsh short story', 1978, which was translated and published in a Russian magazine.

Goodbye, what were you?

The file mainly comprises photocopies and typescripts of works by Glyn Jones, [c. 1992], selected by him for 'Karl's climb and other perils', later published under the title Goodbye, what were you? (Llandysul, 1994), with typescript drafts of the foreword and bibliography, a photocopy of a review of the anthology [1994], and related letters, 1992 and 1994, and notes [1984x1994]. One notebook contains an interview between R? and G[lyn Jones], in the latter's hand, about his background and writings, [1985x1995].

Gregynog poetry anthology

The file comprises papers which relate to an anthology of Anglo-Welsh poetry which Gwasg Gregynog intended to publish. Glyn Jones was invited to select poems for the volume and write an introductory note. The papers consist of lists and photocopies of selected poems, and correspondence, 1979-1983, mostly between Glyn Tegai Hughes of the Press and Glyn Jones. In addition to the anthology, the two volumes of translations of hen benillion by Glyn Jones published by Gwasg Gregynog, When the rose-bush brings forth apples (1980) and Honeydew on the Wormwood (1984), are also discussed. Some notes and draft letters are written on papers pertaining to Yr Academi Gymreig.

The file comprises a typescript with some manuscript amendments, dated 1979, of the article 'X=?' which was included in R. Blythe, Places: an anthology of Britain (Oxford, 1981).

The Beach of Falesá

The file comprises papers, [1971]-1974, 1976 and 1986-1987, relating to The Beach of Falesá, libretto by Glyn Jones, based on a short story by R. L. Stevenson, and music by Alun Hoddinott. The opera was commissioned by the Welsh National Opera Company and published by the Oxford University Press (London, 1974). The file contains manuscript and typescript drafts of the libretto, with synopses of the work, and a copy of the manuscript vocal score (possibly in the hand of Alun Hoddinott). Also included are manuscript and typescript drafts of lyrics for songs, [c. 1973], together with other related papers. In addition the file contains correspondence, 1973-1974, mostly between Glyn Jones and the Oxford University Press, with letters from Roy Bohana (3), Alun Hoddinott (2), Alan Frank, Oxford University Press (11), and A. G. Prys-Jones. A number of drafts are written on papers pertaining to the Welsh Arts Council and drafts of other works by Glyn Jones.

Included are scripts of a tribute to Idris Davies, 'I was born in Rhymney', [1953], 'The dream of Jake Hopkins', 1953, (with a cutting and image relating to the work), 'The misfortunes of Princess Heledd', 1954, an excerpt from The learning lark, 1958, tributes to Henry Treece, 1966, Vernon Watkins, 1967, and Aneirin Talfan Davies, 1980, and an interview regarding Selected poems, 1976. In addition, the file includes scripts of a talk by Gwyn Thomas, 'Present indicative', 1955; and 'Anglo Welsh writing. The bells of Rhymney - Idris Davies' which includes comments by Glyn Jones, 1982; and an undated Welsh translation by Glyn Jones of a script delivered by Jack Jones.
