A composite volume comprising two notebooks originally used by the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837) for personal and family memoranda and accounts (mainly 1821-37) of debts, wages paid to female servants, tithes, provisions, payments of interest and repayments of debts. It also includes accounts, 1816-24, between H. L. Eddes Gwynne and the Reverend Thomas Richards relating to Hirnant rents. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen to record transcripts of letters, mainly between various members of the Richards family but including also letters from R. A notebook partly in the hand of Mary Richards containing miscellaneous material e.g. Welsh and English verses, one series being by 'R[ichard] Richards Vicar Meifod', 1820; medical recipes; 'A List of Subscribers towards paying Rents for Rooms to keep a Charity School in the Parish of Berriew in 1819 -1820' (blank); and 'Enwau y rhai a fu yn ym weled a Theulu P. T. Richard Darowen pan ddaethant o Feifod i Lan Erful'.

A minute book of the Cymmrodorion Society in Powys (established 6 October 1819), 1819-1820, together with a list of members, 1819-1822. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen, and, to a lesser extent, by Thomas R. Williams, Bryn Tanad, Llanerfyl, to record transcripts of a list of British kings to George III ('Tabl o holl Frenhinodd Prydain or dechreiad Cyntaf hyd ein Brenin George y IIII) from the Almanac of Thomas Jones, Shrewsbury, 1709; poetry in strict and free metres by E[dward] J[ones] (Periglor Caer Einion) (1875), [Hugh Parry] (Cefni) (Utica, N.Y.) (1872), [Morris Jones] (Meurig Idris), John Blackwell [Alun], [Robert Parry] (Robin Ddu [Eryri]), John Edwar[d] Davies (New York, a native of Llan Erful), etc.; englynion submitted for competition at the Cymmrodorion Society in Powys eisteddfod at Wrexham, 1820, by W. An imperfect manuscript of poetry and prose compiled by Morrys Oliver, c. 2 May 1685. The poems comprise 'cywyddau', 'englynion' and verses in free metres by Sion Tudur, Rhys Cadwalader, Thomas Lloyd Iangof ('o Penmaen'), Thomas Price ('o blas Iolun'), Edward Morris ('or Perthi Llwydion') and Hugh Llwyd Cynfel, and anonymous poems and fragments. The prose items include 'areithiau' ('Annerch lythur ne araith', etc.) and 'Iachau'r [Achau'r] Cwrw'. There is an inscription in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen.

A volume of poetry transcribed by Lewis Owen [Tyddyn y garreg, Dolgellau, Merioneth] during the last quarter of the seventeenth century. It contains 'cywyddau', 'englynion', 'penillion', 'carolau', etc. by Lewis Owen, Rowland Owen, John Vaughan, William Phylyp, Dafydd Nanmor, Robin Du o fôn, John Owen, Owen Gwynedd, Sion Tydder, Bedo Brwynllysg, Jon. Phylip [Siôn Phylip], Hugh Lloyd Cynddel [recte Cynfal], Morys Dwyferch [recte Dwyfech], Dafydd ap Ifan ap Owen, Sion Dafydd Trefor [Syr Dafydd Trefor], John Brwynog, Thomas Pris [Plas Iolyn], Rowland Prys, John Davies ['Siôn Dafydd Las'], Sr. Reese, Sion Parry, Hugh Morris, Oliver Roger, Ellis Wynn, William Hu[m]ffr[eys], Robert Owen and [? At the end of the volume are a leaflet entitled 'Dirgelwch i'r Rhodianwr ar y Sabbath', published by 'Cymdeithas y Traethodau Crefyddol' [Religious Tracts Society] (No. 17) (mounted on the blank leaf of a letter addressed to the Revd. Mr [Thomas] Richards, Darowen), and 'englynion' by Sion Tudur (in the hand of Mary Richards [Darowen]) and Wa[l]ter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'].

That the entire volume is based on a variety of sources is shown by the last entry inserted by the scribe: 'Yr ychydig o hen bethau hyn, a godais I allan o hen Lyfrau pan oeddwn mewn oriau Segur, rhag I Colli hwynt ...'. Inside the lower cover are printed 'Englynion Croesawiad Sior IV. 'Trwy Gymru' by [Hugh Jones] ('H. Erfyl'). There are a few minor entries in the hand of Mary Richards.

A manuscript consisting largely of transcripts and memoranda by Mary Richards and Thomas Richards of Darowen. The volume appears originally to have been used as an account book of receipts and disbursements in respect of the farms of Llwyn, Cafnmaelen and Byrthlwydd [parish of Dolgellau, Merioneth], 1799-1802, and also to record biographies of [James Crichton, 'The Admirable'], Sir Francis Walsingham, Sir Francis Drake and William Cecil, Lord Burghley. A volume labelled 'Llyfr Cerddi William Morgan', being a collection largely of poetry compiled during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century by William Morgan (died 1728), Plassegwynio[n], Llanymawddwy, Merioneth. It contains 'Yr Eisteddfod ynghaerwys ... y 26 o fis May yn y nawfed flwyddyn o deyrnasiad y fre[n]hines Elizabeth ...' A volume originally used fairly extensively by Thomas Richards, Darowen as a rentroll of tithes set in the parish of Darowen, 1824-31. One of the sources quoted by Mary Richards is a manuscript of Sir Thomas Llwyd, 'Person Cemes, Sir Drefaldwyn'. The outside upper cover is inscribed '1825 Tithe Book'.

Two notebooks (pasted together) of the Reverend John Lloyd Richards (1790-1854), vicar of Llanwddyn containing 'Subjects for [weekly] themes given by Mr Ainger for 1821', '...[L]ines ... set up in a neat frame in the room at the Pavilion by the falls of the Clyde in Scotland', 1817; verses by R. Davies entitled 'I Bedwar Rhan y Flwyddyn'; prose texts entitled 'The Number Seven', 'English Language' and 'Esau and Jacob'; verses entitled 'Happiness' by the present Bp. of Calcutta. Dr. Heber'; personal accounts, 1821-31 (expenses at St Bees College and at Nun Monkton, payments to hired servants, receipts of rent etc.); etc. The scribe's sister, Mary Richards, during the period 1870-3 has used blank spaces to record copious memoranda, anecdotes and transcripts of verse and family letters.

A composite volume of the second quarter of the eighteenth century containing English poetry (eclogues, epigrams and epitaphs); Latin poetry (extracts from Cato, Virgil and Ovid, epitaphs and epigrams); and Welsh poetry largely in free metres. The Welsh poems are generally anonymous but some of them, as well as one of the English epitaphs, are assigned to John Morys (Maurice) (1736-47), and there are single compositions by Humph[rey] Owen, B[ardd] C[wsg] (1732), J[ohn] R[hydderch], E[van] W[illiam] and Owen Griff[ydd] (1733). An addition to the volume contains a poem in Welsh by 'Gilielmus Didymus' (1755). .
