Mainly settled accounts, being rentals of the Ruperra estate in the parishes of Llanfihangel-y-fedw, Cardiff, Roath, Whitchurch, Llanisien, Llys-faen, Rhydri, Tregolwin and Llanwonno in Glamorgan, Garthbrengi, Llandyfalle, Bronllys, Glasbury and Llys-wen in Breconshire, Sandhill Farm and Stowy Farm in Somerset, and the estate left to Thomas Morgan of Ruperra, esq., by Lewis Morgan of Machen, esq., in the parishes of Basaleg, Coedcernyw, St Brides, Marshfield, Michaelston-y-fedw, St Mellons, Rumney, Peterstone and Malpas in Monmouthshire, plus casual profits and promiscuous payments. Lewis Morgan's late estate is distinguished from the rest of Thomas Morgan's estate until 1743; from 1744 it is listed with the rest of the estate. -- There are also a number of rough copies, probably drafts, and duplicate accounts. -- The rental includes the whole of the estate until 1766 (Somerset disappears after 1756); the 1767 rental is for Glamorgan only, while the 1768 rental is headed 'Ruperra estate in the county of Glamorgan'. The rentals for 1769 and 1770 were presumably missing before the Tredegar estate records came to NLW, as they fall between the former NLW references Tredegar MSS 48 and 49. The 1771 rental is of holdings in the parishes of Llanfedw, Cardiff, Roath, Whitchurch, Llanisien, Gelli-gaer, Llanwynno, Colwinston, Llys-faen, Rhydri and Michaelston-y-fedw, and the township of Llanfedw, all in Glamorgan, and in Newport town and the parishes of Rumney, Basaleg, St Brides, St Mellons, Coedcernyw, Marshfield, Peterstone, Malpas, Llantarnam, Llanfihangel-y-fedw in Monmouthshire. -- At the rear of AGR 1/4-5 are settled accounts of Tredegar rents in the parishes of Rumney, Peterstone, St Brides, Marshfield, Coedcernyw, St Mellons and Llanfihangel-y-fedw in Monmouthshire, plus casual profits and promiscuous payments, 1773-1787. The rentals are the continuation of the NLW Tredegar MSS 17, the collection of William Morrice. Malpas is added in 1783.

Ruperra estate letter books, containing drafts of letters from Henry Brown at Tredegar to Charles Morgan, including while Morgan was at London and Ealing. The letters mainly relate to estate administration, with occasional family and social references.

Daybooks containing an account of materials arriving at the Tredegar estate works, Rhiwderyn. From the rear of ADY 2/1 is an account of 69 lots of sawn oak received from the mill, 1914-(?). ADY 2/2 is closed with the endorsement 'End of account. See "Materials Inward" book, no. 2'.

Ledgers of materials, wages and other expences of repairs carried out by the estate works, arranged under properties. The items in the accounts are forwarded from the Rhiwderyn estate works daybooks (ADY 3). Many of the minor accounts remain in the same volume for the life of the volumes, but the 'Miscellaneous Rep[air]s' account is forwarded from ADY 1/2 (July 1914-Aug. 1915) to ADY 1/3 (Aug. 1915-Nov. 1918) to ADY 1/4 (Dec. 1918-June 1921) to ADY 1/5 (July 1921-July 1924) to ADY 1/6 (Aug. 1924-May 1927), which is probably a good indication of when the successive volumes were started. The pages beyond the last page of miscellaneous repairs for May 1927 have been torn out of the volume, presumably signalling either the start of a new volume that is now lost. ADY 1/2-6 were originally numbered 1-5. Ledgers 6-8 appear to be lost. ADY 1/8 is ledger no. 9, covering the years 1946-1953. -- ADY 1/7 is intitled 'Ledger. Glam. 1', and the fly-leaf is stamped 'Tredegar estate works, Rhiwderin'. This book also contains ledger accounts of wages and materials, apparently expended on properties belonging to the estate. Most of the accounts include an element '20% overhead charges', perhaps suggesting that the work was done by estate workers. A number of the accounts are continued in Monmouthshire volumes, eg, 'Forward to 8/260' (fo. 213, A. G. Ellis, Cold Cefn Cottage, Lower Machen), 'Folio Mon. 7/87' (fo. 228, T. Llewellyn, Tai Mawr, Lisvane) and 'Mon. folio 7/168' (fo. 253, W. T. Ackland, Ruperra Park Wall Cottage), presumably referring to the lost volumes.

Daybooks of the cost of materials and labour in repairs carried out by the estate works, generally totalled at the end of each month. The accounts include a reference to the ledger account to which the individual items were assigned in the ledgers in ADY 1, initially mainly Miscellaneous Repairs and Tredegar House Repairs, but also including the accounts of other properties, including Alma Cottage and Craig-yr-haul. In later volumes the reference is reduced to ledger number and folio. A volume covering the period Nov. 1920-Sept. 1925 is missing between between ADY 3/1, 'Day book no. 1', and ADY 3/2, 'Day book 3'. ADY 3/2-3 are stamped 'Tredegar estate works, Rhiwderin'. The series ends with the July 1949 total.

Letter books containing carbon copies of the out-going letters of A. Clifford Harding (1919-1942) of the Clerk of Works Department, based at the Tredegar estate works, Rhiwderyn, Monmouthshire. Many of the letters are to L. Foster Stedman (1919-1938) of the Tredegar estate offices, Newport, the estate agent (J. I. Storrar, 1938-1941, and W. B. T. Rees, 1941-1942), mainly relating to repairs and maintenance of tenanted properties, apparently mainly on the Monmouthshire and Glamorgan agricultural estates. Other letters are to contractors inviting tenders, to tenants, and to other individuals and organisations. The volumes cover the period 27 Sept. 1919-24 July 1942. The 1938-1942 volume (ADY 4/9) also had three letters copied into it dated May-June 1946 before being finally abandoned. Many of the war-time letters refer to the shortage and regulation of materials; ADY 4/9 also contains a letter at the back of the volume (p. 999) from A. Clifford Harding as commander of No. 13 (Basaleg) Platoon to Captain A. L. Howell, officer commanding 'C' Company, 4th Mon. (Risca) Battalion of the Home Guard, that unless he gets coupons for at least 10-12 gallons of petrol a month, his platoon will have to remain stationary and train in their own village, May 1941. -- Bundles of letters found loose at the front or the back of various volumes have been gathered together into a single file (ADY 4/10), containing letters dated 1924, 1931-1932, 1935, 1937, 1940-1942 and 1945. These papers include several certificates from the Clerk of Works, 1940-1942, as to the service records of his employees, and not objecting to them being called up for work of national importance. Letters found filed loose between the pages of the volumes have been left where they were found.

Desk diaries used as daybooks, containing lists and prices of building materials used to repair and maintain estate properties. It may be possible to relate these books to the Rhiwderin estate works ledgers (ADY 1) and daybooks (ADY 2-3), although a cursory examination failed to do so. The 1936 volume starts at the beginning of the year, and the 1949 volume continues to the end of the year, so there were probably predecessor and successor volumes that have not survived. The volumes for 1936-1943 contain lists of (employees'?) Health Insurance cards received, and 1936-40 of 'Trustee work - cowsheds, water supplies etc'. The 1940 volume encloses monthly lists, March-Oct., of 'cubic ft of timber issued from yard', giving the total amount of timber and the amount of home-grown larch, oak, etc. The 1941 volume contains a list of properties for which forms C.2 have been received.

Three original files of reports and valuations by W. G. Rees of Newport, surveyor and estate agent, and J. F. Groves, including on properties in the parishes of Basaleg, Bedwas, Bedwellte, Christchurch, Llanfihangel Llantarnam, Machen, Marshfield, Mynyddislwyn, Peterstone, Risca, Rogerstone, Roggiet, St Brides, St Mellons and St Woolloos in Monmouthshire, Cardiff, Eglwysilan, Gelli-gaer, Llanwynno and Whitchurch in Glamorgan, and Ystradgynlais in Breconshire. The papers were in chronological order and numbered within each of three binders, the first unlabelled; the second labelled 'W. G. Rees and J. F. Groves, valuations and reports, 1903 to 1916', and the third 'J. F. Groves, valuations and reports, 1903 to [blank]'.
