William Thomas, Jamaica, to Taliesyn Williams, Neath,

Wm Thomas, Phillipsfield, St Thos in the east, Jamaica, to Mr Taliesyn Williams, Neath. Having promised to write to the addressee's father on arrival in Jamaica he addresses this to TW as his father may not be at home. Since he arrived he has met a gentleman, a neighbour of Mr and Mrs Duncan, to whom he put some questions to know if it was possible to find any(one) who would purchase everything belonging to the heir-at-law of the late Miles, Thomas, and John Williams subject to the reversion of Mrs Williams (now Mrs Duncan) and other legacies by will made in favour of legatees therein mentioned. This gentleman informed him that he would himself offer, provided arrangement could be made to that effect through a person qualified with full powers to act as their representatives in this Island. The need for the addressee immediately to take some specific steps with some person or persons in this country (Jamaica). Ere long the writer will be in the neighbourhood of Walter Pollock, the acting executor of Miles, and he will have some conversation with Mr P. On no account would the writer undertake the business by himself.

William Rees, Llanover, to Taliesin Williams,

Willm Rees, Llanover, to Mr Taliesin Williams. Mr W. H. Black of the Public Records Service, who intends being at Cardiff at the end of this week for the purpose of inspecting the Records, would be most happy to afford the addressee an opportunity of looking over them at the same time, as he presumes it might be serviceable towards forwarding the addressee's County History. The Canwyll y Cymry. Edeyrn Dafawd Aur's Grammar. He is requested by Lady Hall to enquire whether, after the addressee has made his selection for the Society, he could bring those MSS to Llanover to be inspected by Mr Price.

William Rees, Llandovery, to Taliesin Williams, Ab Iolo,

Willm Rees, Llandovery, to Mr Taliesin Williams, Ab Iolo, Merthyr Tydvil. Mr Price sent the addressee a suggestion about altering the note on Glastonbury, but the writer presumes that he has spurned that in the same manner as the suggestions respecting Arthur. Asking for more copy - he fears the addressee is much mistaken if he supposes that he (W. R.) will not be able to overtake him, as the addressee will be pressed hard to bring the work out in the specified time, otherwise the Society will be completely ruined.

William Rees, Llandovery, to Taliesin Williams,

Willm Rees, Llandovery, to Mr Taliesin Williams, Glebe Land, Merthyr Tydfil. 'Favored by Mr Garner'. As he is now actually engaged upon his new edition of Canwyll y Cymru he would wish particularly to compare the text with those poems in the addressee's possession copied by Anthony Powell of Tir Iarll, Margam. P. S. Mr Williams of Aberpergwm informs him that the addressee has a collection of unpublished Triads - what quantity has he, and is he disposed to sell the MS? Also would he undertake the translation of a portion of the 'Myfyrian Archaeology' with a view towards its publication in English. Trusting that in this case the addressee will make an exception to his rule never to write letters.

William Rees, Llandovery, to Taliesin Williams,

Willm Rees, Llandovery, to [Taliesin Williams]. His former letter explained all his objections to Llyfr Basing - enclosed the addressee has Mr Price's remarks on the same subject. Mr Price misunderstood him (W. R.) where he mentions Roberts's complete translation. However it is fortunate that the discovery was made in time, and the addressee can easily replace the Llyfr with more historical matter - begging him to select and send it soon as he has not a line to proceed with. Accompanying the letter is one from T. Price, Crickhowel, to [William Rees], 15 June 1841.

William Rees, Llandovery, to Taliesin Williams,

Willm Rees, Llandovery, to [Taliesin Williams]. Requesting a fresh supply of copy or a reply to his last. He is just out of Lewys Dwnn, and his men are waiting to go on with the addressee's work uninterruptedly. P. S. He sent the addressee's Benwyll Translation to Mr Price for his opinion about those articles and also about the Bonedd and Anfonedd from the Book of St Albans. Enclosing Mr Price's reply but desiring him to return it.

William Rees, Llandovery, to Taliesin Williams,

Will[ia]m Rees, Stamp Office, Llandovery, to Mr Taliesin Williams, Merthyr Tydfil. Is unfortunately prevented from leaving home this week, therefore begging the addressee to attend the sale of the books, &c., of the late Mr Thos Evans and 'should anything in the old MS way be offered reasonable', to purchase it for him. The MSS he wishes most.

William Rees, Llandovery, to Taliesin Williams,

Wm Rees, Llandovery, to Mr Taliesin Williams, Glebe Land, Merthyr Tydfil. Marked Private. He has been given to understand that Lady Charlotte Guest intends publishing the Mabinogion at her own expense. A request to the addressee, if he has an opportunity, to recommend him to Lady Charlotte as being a proper person to whom she might entrust the printing of the work, but asking him not to let her know that he has written to the addressee on the subject.

William Rees, Llandovery, to Taliesin Williams,

Willm Rees, Llandovery, to Mr Taliesin Williams, Glebe Land, Merthyr Tydfil. The printing of the addressee's Essay on Coelbren y Beirdd. It would save him (W. R.) some trouble and expense if he could obtain the engravings of Alphabets given in EW's History of the Bards. Owing to interminable delays he is not yet engaged upon the printing of the Liber Landavensis but hopes to commence next week.

William Rees, Llandovery, to Taliesin Williams,

Willm Rees, Llandovery, to [Taliesin Williams]. Explaining his negligence in replying to the addressee's letters. He wants the copy of the addressee's volume or part of it over. The Liber will be ready next week. The writer sent the old leaf of MS to his uncle - it is an analysis of the first part of the Liber. The Coelbren. The Canwyll y Cymry.
