Preceding the texts are a list of contents ('Taflen o gynhwysiad y Llyfr') and a list of names of the poets represented in the volume ('Enwau'r Awdwyr a Sgrifenasant y Caniadau yn y Llyfr hwn'). There are notes and memoranda on the fly-leaves by Lewis Morris and John Morgan. Inside the lower cover is a bill-head of the Wynnstay Arms Hotel or Eagles Inn, Machynlleth. Mary Richards [presumably of Darowen], whose bookplate appears inside the upper cover of the volume, has subsequently added transcripts of 'awdlau' and 'cywyddau' by Sion Tudur, Lewis Glynn Kothi, Tudu[r] Aled, Iorwerth Fynglwyd, Gruffudd ap Jenkin ap Llywelyn Vychan, [William Llyn] pp. 352-51, Iolo Goch, Raff ab Robert, Henri Humphreys, and Dafydd ap Gwilim.

A volume written almost entirely in the autograph of John Roberts ('Siôn Lleyn'; 1749-1817) containing poetry largely of his own composition, with some items by other poets. The volume is in two sections and there is a list of contents at the beginning covering pp. 1-145 in the first section. The wording on the title-page is 'Trysorfa yr Awen sef Casgliad o Ganiadau, Sion Lleyn, 1787,' but some of the items are of later date. The other poets represented are David Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu o'r Eryri'), Robert Prich[ar]d (Robert Prichiard Sion,'Robin'r Aber'), T[h]om[a]s Edward[s] Nant, D. Edward, Lewis Morys, John Hughes ('pandy bach pentre ucha yn Lleyn'), Richard Powel, Evan Owens, Glan-yllynnay (Llanystumdwy), MrEfan Efans ('Bardd hir') [Ieuan Brydydd Hir], Evan Rich[ar]d (Bryncroes), [David Jones] Dafydd Sion Pierce ('Dafydd Brydydd hir'), Dafydd ap Sion, Owen Griffith, Hugh Lloed [sic] Cynfal, Goronwy Owen(s) ('Goronwy Ddu o Fôn'), Edmund Prys and Griffith Philip. One or two items (p. 2 in the first section and pp. 142-5 at the end of the volume) appear to be in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion'). One 'cywydd' in the volume (p. 118 in the first section) is headed 'Annerch Ieuan Bryncroes i Sion Lleyn wedi dyfod i ymweled a mi i Chappel Rhyd-y-Clafrdy pryd yr oeddwn yno yn cadw ysgol y fln 1791 y mis Medi' . The volume contains some notes in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), press cuttings and also a copy (printed) of Marwnad, neu Goffadwriaeth y Brawd Robert Roberts, o Sir Gaernarfon : yr hwn a ymadawodd â'r Byd hwn Tachwedd 28, 1802. Yn llawn 40 mlwydd Oed : wedi bod yn pregethu'r Efengyl 15 mlynedd. 8 pp. (Caernarfon : Argraphwyd gan T. Roberts, n.d.) by S. Lleyn. On p. 4 in the second section are 'Trioedd y Crinwas neu'r Cybydd'.

A manuscript in the hand of David Richards ('Dewi Silin') containing transcripts from Edward Williams ['Iolo Morganwg']: Poems, Lyric and Pastoral, Vol. II (London, 1794), pp. 217-37, of 'An Account of, and Extracts from The Welsh-Bardic Triades', 'Trioedd Braint a Defod', with an English translation entitled 'Institutional Triades', and 'Trioedd Barddas' (incomplete). Beginning at the end are an account of the city of Jerusalem ('History of the Roman Empire', vol. 2, p. 388), dissertations on 'The Resurrection' and on the Principles of Toleration, and extracts from the Salopian Journal, 24 August, 30 November 1825.

A notebook in three hands containing English translations of poetry by Alphonse de Lamartine, among them being versifications by G. Hughes, Oakley Lodge, Gloucestershire, and translations by Amédé Louis Joseph Guidez; 'englynion' by [Daniel Evans] 'Daniel Ddu [o Geredigion]' and [John Jones] 'Ioan Tegid', 1828, and English translations and imitations of poetry of 'Ioan Tegid' by T. S. A. and T. J., 1832-6; and an extract from Francois René, vicomte de Chateaubriand: Les Martyrs, ou Le Triomphe de la Religion Chrétienne, together with a corresponding Latin translation by M. Guidez. Although the fly-leaf bears the name of Alcwyn C. Evans, Carmarthen none of the text is in his hand.

A notebook containing translations into Welsh of articles and notes largely of Llŷn interest from Archaeologia Cambrensis, Vols. I-IV, 1846-9 (not in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), except for the references to Archaeologia Cambrensis.) There are also some loose papers, including a translation in the autograph of R. P. Morris of a note on Bodwrda, Aberdaron [Archaeologia Cambrensis, 1849, p. 208] sent to 'Myrddin Fardd', and translations in another hand of notes on inscribed stones at Llannor and Cefnamwlch [Archaeologia Cambrensis, 1847, p. 201, and 1859, p. 53].

Transcripts of 'An Account of the Life of the Revd. Mr Wm Roth [sic] ....,' An account of Mr Robt Powel, Vicar of Cadegstone near Neath, Glamorganshire ... ', 'An account of the life and Death of Mr W. Cradock,' and 'Short Hints respecting the Life of Revd Rees Pritchard Vicar of Llanddyfry' from an unspecified source. On the envelope John Ballinger has written 'Transcript from Thos Charles' MS Account of early Nonconformists. Cymdeithas Llen Cymru'.

A volume of transcripts in three hands of texts relating to logic and dialectic and to cosmology and astronomy, e.g. 'Logicae et Dialecticae nomina indiscriminatim usurpantur, ne tamen differunt', 'De Coelo', 'De Motu Sphvrorum recto et transuerso', 'De Stellis', 'De Stellis fixis et Planetis', etc. Among later additions are a list of payments and purchases, 1746-8 (including the purchase of a 'sive at Lampeter') and verses (81 recto, 82 recto) entitled 'On Orinda & her Incomparable Pompey' and 'On Mrs. Philips her Pompey'.

A volume containing transcripts of most of the letters contained in Cwrtmawr MS 478B (letters of Morris Williams ('Nicander') to Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd') etc.).

A volume containing copies in the autograph of Owen Jones ('Manoethwy') of twenty letters, 1824-35, from John Blackwell ['Alun'], writing from Mold, Oxford, Berriew, Kerry, Holywell and Cardigan, chiefly to [the Reverend Thomas] Richards, Berriew and Llangynyw, and, to a lesser extent, to John Hamer, the Reverend Lewis Richards, Berriew, the Reverend E. Davies, Llan merewig and the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen. Two of the letters written from Oxford to the Reverend Lewis Richards contain letters also from John Antes La Trobe and J. Hamer in the one instance and J. Hamer in the other. Other items include a copy of a list of subscribers towards the education of John Blackwell of Mold, 1824, and copies of two other letters -, one, 1823, from R[ichard] Richards to his brother, [Thomas] Richards, Berriew, the other, 1827, from Evan Evans, ('Glan Geirionydd'), Christleton to Mr Richards, Llangynyw [i.e. Thomas Richards]. Some of the letters and the list of subscribers have been printed in Adgof Uwch Anghof. Some of the original letters are in Cwrtmawr MSS 74 and 872 and the list of subscribers is in Cwrtmawr MS 869.

A composite volume comprising three exercise books and insets largely in the hands of Thomas Richards, Darowen and David Richards, Llansilin. The contents include a list of names, ages and dates of death of 176 eminent ecclesiastics ('Cofrestr o Enwau, Oedran ac amser marwolaeth y Gwyr enwog canlynol ... '); a tract, 1753 (transcribed 1822), explaining the reasons for the adoption in Great Britain in 1752 of the Gregorian or New Style Calendar ('... y Rhesymmau amlycaf paham y gwnaed y cyfnewidiad diweddar yn y Flwyddyn, ydys yn alw yr Ysteil newydd'); short biographies of early and late British historians ('Ychydig o hanes yr Awdwyr mwyaf hynod a ysgrifennasant am y Brutaniaid yn yr Ynys hon yn gynar ac yn ddiweddar ...'), based on Joshua Thomas: Hanes y Bedyddwyr, Ymhlith y Cymry... (Caerfyrddin, 1778); 'Ymddiddan Myrddin a Gwenddydd' and prophecies attributed to Myrddin and Taliesin; prophetic poetry ('cywyddau', etc.) by Dafydd Llwyd Llewelin ap Griffydd, ?Griffidd ap Dafydd Fychan, Robin Ddu, Owain Twna, Dafydd Gorllech, Ifan Brydydd hir, Huw Pennant, Edwart [ap Rhys], Dr Sion Cent, Ie[uan] Dyfi, Iolo Goch, ?Meredith ap R[hys], Llywelin ap Owain, Rhys Goch or Yri, Thomas Prys (Plas Iolyn), etc.; 'englynion' by Davydd Richard ('D[ewi] Silin') and [John Jones] ('Myllin'); Awdl i'r olygfa o ben clochdy St Paul, Llundain, 1825, by [William Williams] ('Gwilym Cyfeiliog); 'Awdl Ymweliad ei Fawrhydi Sior y Pedwerydd ag ynys Fon' by [William Ellis Jones] ('G[wilym] Cawrdaf') (said in an accompanying note by Mary Richards to be in the hand of Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'); 'Coelbren y Beirdd'; a table of first lines of 'cywyddau', etc. by mediaeval Welsh bards; a list of titles of books of Welsh poetry and pedigrees, etc. The first exercise book, belonging to Thomas Richards, is dated 1814 and the second and third, belonging to David Richards, 1811-14?

A holograph manuscript of Peter Bailey Williams (1763-1836), rector of Llanrug and Llanberis, Caernarvonshire, containing annotated transcripts of letters and documents from the Wynn (of Gwydir) Papers, the manuscripts of Paul Panton, Plas-gwyn and Lewis Morris ('Llewelyn Ddu o Fôn'), etc.; English translations of Welsh 'cywyddau', poetry by David Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu Eryri') and Peter Bailey Williams; etc. The volume was compiled approximately during the period 1795-9. Among the insets are two letters of John Wynn of Gwydir (1553-1627) (see Calendar of Wynn (of Gwydir) Papers 1515-1690 ..., nos. 2848, 2858). There are some notes on the upper end paper in the hand of St G. A[rmstrong] W[illiams].

H. Davies (ed.): The Letters of Goronwy Owen (1723-1769) (Cardiff 1924), The Letters of Lewis, Richard, William and John Morris ... 1728-1765, vols I-II (Aberystwyth, 1907-09), etc.); lists of 'Modern Welsh Authors, [fl. 1590-1770] and '... Bards who flourished about 1280'; 'englynion' by Rhisiart Jones ('o Fôn) and an 'awdl' by 'Guttun Gwrecsam' ('sef John Edward, neu Sion Ceiriog'); and a list of 'Authors of Welsh Grammars'. There are some annotations by St George Armstrong Williams.

A volume originally used largely by the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen as an account book, 1821-6, of the Darowen Auxiliary of the Society for Promoting Christianity among the Jews ('Cymdeithas Gynnorthwyol ir Iuddewon' or 'Cyfaill Israel'). The Auxiliary Society was established on 12 January 1821 and the account book contains rules, lists of officers, particulars of individual subscriptions (and of collections previously made during the period 1816-20), and copies of letters of acknowledgment of annual contributions to the parent Society. The remainder, and by far the greater part, of the volume was subsequently used largely by Mary Richards to record transcripts of 'carolau', 'englynion', 'cywyddau', hymns, etc. by Hugh Jones (Maesglase), W. Thomas, John Morris, Aneurin Owain, Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'), Sion Philip, Dafydd Rhys (Llanbryn Mair), [John Jones] 'Tegid', John William (Dolgellau), Thomas Jones (Creaton), Robert Davies (Nantglyn), William Wynne ('Person Llancanhafal'), Joseph Marpole, [?Thomas Roberts] ('Cyfell Cadfan' (1799), 'Philo Cadfan'), Cadwaladr Dafydd (Llan y Mowddwy), Owen Robert, David William [?Llandeilo Fach], David Harris (?Carno), Dafydd Jones ['Dafydd Siôn Siâms'] 'Dafydd ab Ioan' ('rhwymwr Llyfrau Penrhyn Deutraeth'), Rowland Hugh (Grienyn), David Ellis ('Dafydd Elis Gof Llan y Mowddwy'), D. There are references in the volume to a number of manuscript sources, viz. p. 59 'o Lyfr Edward Jones Gwernphilip Llan Badarn fawr Sir Aberteifi', p. 107 'Copiwyd allan o hen lyfr Moelyrch 1868', p. 132 [recte 232] 'o Lyfr Llangadfan, and p. 237 'o Lyfr Llangadfan, neu Garth Beibio'.

A volume originally intended as a personal and farming account book, 1830 and undated, but consisting almost entirely of transcripts, largely by Mary Richards, Darowen, of material of family and local interest. A volume almost entirely in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen largely containing poetry ('cywyddau', 'englynion', etc.) by Rowland Williams, Sion Philip, Guttun Owen, William Philip, Dr John Kent, Dafydd ap E[dmwnt], Edmwnt Prys, Robin Ddu o Fon, James Dwnid [recte Dwnn], Thom. Williams (1817), Iolo Goch, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Taliesin, Davydd ap Gwilim, Huw Arwystl, Hugh Morris, Edward Morris, Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], [David Richards, 'Dewi Silin'], Robert Parry (Eglwys fach), David Rowlands (Plas Isa, Dolgelley), Rev. D. Davies (Castle Caereinion), John Parry, Robert Davies (Nantglyn) and Hu ap Ier. ap Robert, and anonymous poems. Among other items included are a code of manners ('Dysg Vanners dda'); a pedigree of Oliver Cromwell; a drawing and a description of a brass object discovered at Hen fryn fawr near Caersiws [sic], Montgomeryshire, 1808, 'Teilyn[g]dod a theithi yr Iaith Gymraeg', etc. [from Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'): Cyfrinach Beirdd Ynys Prydain (Abertawy, 1829)]; and a diagram illustrating the civil order and the ecclesiastical order of the months. Much of the volume appears to have been written during the period 1817-18 but there are some personal and other memoranda dated to 1857. Some of the items appear to have been copied from NLW MS 2691 ('Llyfr Pant Phillip').

A volume originally used by Thomas Richards, Darowen to record the rules of Darowen Church Sunday School ('Rheolau perthynol i Ysgol Sabbothol Eglwys Darowen') [1824]. Beginning at the end, also in the hand of Thomas Richards, are 'Cadwaen Iachawdwriaeth', a list of subscribers (among them Thomas Richards) to Welsh Bibles, and 'Crefyddau', being statistics of religious membership of European countries. The remainder, and by far the greater part, of the volume was afterwards used largely by Mary Richards to record transcripts of letters from Thomas Gerrard, Chamberlain['s] office, Counsel [sic] House, Bristol to T[homas] Richard[s], Darowen, 1836 (an annuity payable at Bristol to Mary Evans, a blind resident of Darowen), Griffith Williams, Dolgelleu to Mair Richard[s], Darowen, 1838 (the death of the recipient's father), Moris Jones ('Meurig Idris') from Manafon to Mair Richards, 1841 (the death of the recipient's mother), Edward Hughes, Cambridge to [Mary] Richard[s] [1841] (the death of the writer's mother), J[ohn Luxmore], bishop of St Asaph, from London to [Thomas] Richards, Darowen, 1826 (the writer's decision to waive the living [of Llangynyw] in favour of his son [Thomas Richards]), R. Caerwys') a list, compiled in 1837, of books in the library of T[homas] Richards, Darowen; etc. Among the insets and papers mounted on the fly-leaves and inside covers are an acknowledgement, 1820, of the receipt by T[homas] Richards, vicar of Darowen to Thomas Williams of Llanfihangel [yng Ngwynfa], Montgomeryshire of seven books of Psalms called Telyn Dafydd for disposal to his neighbours and parishioners, and a prayer in the hand of Thomas Richards, Darowen. The outside upper cover is inscribed 'Ysgol Sul Eglwys Darowen 1824'.
