Estate and family records, 1183-1957, of the Wynn and Williams Wynn family of Wynnstay, Denbighshire. The archive includes a group of architectural drawings, c. 1770, by James Byres; a group of early charters and deeds, 1183-1676, from the Cistercian Abbey of Strata Marcella (Ystrad Marchell) near Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, and elsewhere; antiquarian, legal and literary manuscripts; account rolls of Sir Richard Wynn, Treasurer to Queen Henrietta Maria, 1627-1649; manorial records relating to manors and boroughs in Denbighshire, Montgomeryshire and Shropshire, 1364-1895 (1934-40 and 1952 deposits); parliamentary election papers for Anglesey, Cardigan (county and borough), Denbighshire, Flintshire and Montgomeryshire, 1621-1883; family and estate correspondence, including part of that of Sir William Williams (1634-1700), Speaker of the House of Commons; rentals and account books, 1300-1925 (preserved in an almost unbroken series from the time of Sir William Williams); over 5000 title deeds and documents, [pre-1290]-[c. 1910], mainly relating to properties in the six North Wales counties and Shropshire, including records for Glascoed and Llanforda, Llwydiarth, Llangedwyn and Glanllyn, Plas-y-Ward, Rhiwgoch and Mathafarn, estates acquired either by marriage or purchase in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; together with papers relating to administration of the estates, 1573-1946; family papers, 1499-1913, county and central government administration papers, 1608-1880; two discrete groups of Much Wenlock estate records, 1534-1860, and Nantcriba estate records, 1381-1680; and various maps. There is an additional group of papers relating to the Wynnstay estate which came from the office of Longueville Gittins solicitors, Oswestry, dated 1582-1957.

W. E. Gladstone letter to Clarence Paget

Autograph letter, 24 December 1868, from William Ewart Gladstone, 10 Downing Street, to [Vice-Admiral Lord] C[larence] Paget, [Commander-in-Chief for the Mediterranean Fleet], in which Gladstone discusses the formation of his first government, having become Prime Minister on 3 December.
The letter contains references to Paget's brother-in-law [Arthur Otway, Gladstone's new Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs], and to [Hugh] Childers, [First Lord of the Admiralty]. In a postscript he states 'The Welsh have made a notable demonstration in many of their elections and one which ought to warn the Clergy of what they are about'.

Plaid Cymru Ephemera (North Wales)

Ephemera, publications, correspondence, newspaper cuttings and manifestos relating to Plaid Cymru election campaigns during the 1980s and 1990s collected by Dafydd Timothy. The file contains Plaid Cymru manifestos for the 1983 and 1987 General Elections, material relating to the European Parliament elections in 1984 and 1989, General Elections in 1983, 1987 and 1992, elections to the National Assembly for Wales in 1999, the Pontypridd by election in 1989, election addresses, posters, stickers and other material such as canvassing guidelines
Much of the material is related to north Wales constituencies there is some material relating to Carmarthen and Pontypridd.

Personal papers

The group comprises personal papers, being letters written by and received by the Griffith family, 1724-1943, letters of families such as Hughes of Gwydir, Weeg, Llwyn Gronw and Cae'rberllan, Roberts of Bryn y neuadd, Wynne of Garthmeilio and Plasnewydd, and others, 1680-1882, small diaries, pocket notebooks and almanacks containing memoranda and personal notes, 1701-1853, a few photographs, postcards and other memorabilia, 1901-[c. 1940], school papers, certificates and appointments, 1746-1920. The family members who are most frequently represented here are Jane Griffith (nee Hughes), John Wynne Griffith, Jane Griffith (nee Wynne), George Griffith, Edward Humphrey Griffith, William Henry Griffith and William Douglas Wynne Griffith. The letters, notebooks and diaries are illustrative of late eighteenth and nineteenth century life, particularly with regard to the family and household, social engagements, sporting activities, travel, elections, contemporary local and national events, domestic organisation and estate management.

Parliamentary Election Ephemera

The file comprises election ephemera related to Plaid Cymru candidates in parliamentary elections including Vic Davies in Rhondda West (1966), Errol Jones in Pontypridd (1970), Hywel ap Robert in Ceredigion (1970), Edward Merriman in Ogmore (1970), Dafydd Wigley in Merioneth (1970), Carwyn James in Llanelli (1970), as well as a leaflet by Dafydd Elis Thomas campaigning for the role of Vice-President of Plaid Cymru and some handwritten drafts of election addresses.

G. Material relating to Baroness Randerson's selection as the S. D. P./Liberal Alliance candidate for 1987 General Election in Cardiff South and Penarth. File contains speech notes, press releases, Focus leaflets as well as election leaflets and posters.

Electoral papers

The series comprises mainly electoral ephemera, letters, minutes and information relating to General, European, County Council and Assembly Elections with which the Rev. Roger Roberts was involved, especially the Liberal Party in the Conwy Parliamentary Constituency, 1950-1999. Files 1/8-1/15 comprise election ephemera, mostly from north Wales and several political parties 1945-2015.

Sub fond contains election campaign material produced by the S. D. P./Liberal Alliance and Welsh Liberal Democrats for elections to South Glamorgan County Council, Cardiff City Council, Cardiff County Council, UK General Elections, by-elections, elections to the National Assembly for Wales and the European Parliament as well as Focus local community newsletters distributed in the Cardiff area.
