Hymn tunes

A number of hymn tunes, psalms and related notes and press cuttings, [1840], [1906x1930], mostly in J. Lloyd Williams's hand but also including notes by Mary Davies and a few related letters, 1918-1929, from others. Notes of a lecture entitled 'Caniadaeth y Cysegr', delivered at Aberystwyth in 1926, are also included, together with a reference to a folk song in the Ifor Ceri MSS.

Welsh Music

Incomplete outlines of four series of lectures delivered by J. Lloyd Williams to classes at Aberystwyth, 1929, Bala, 1928-1929, Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1927-1928, and Trawsfynydd, 1928-1929. The topics include the history of Welsh music, congregational singing and folk singing. Two short essays by a member of the Trawsfynydd class, 1927, relating to the gypsies of Llangwm, are also included.

Congregational singing

A typescript copy of a lecture entitled 'Congregational singing in Nonconformist Wales', delivered by J. Lloyd Williams at Harlech in August 1941; an exercise book containing an address/lecture entitled 'Caniadaeth y Cysegr'; manuscript notes of a lecture on the same topic delivered at Trawsfynydd in 1929, Treherbert, 1940 and Ystradgynlais, 1941; notes of lectures relating to hymn tunes given in 1938 and 1942; and preparatory notes for the president's address at a singing festival in Aberystwyth, April 1917.

'Canu'r Cysegr'

Preparatory notes for lectures and addresses on congregational singing, including material relating specifically to the Gymanfa Ganu and to the conducting of congregational singing. A few notes relating to conducting in general are also included.
