Account book of Bethel (Caeo) and Bwlch-y-rhiw churches,

A composite volume of home-made notebooks containing financial accounts of Bethel (Caeo) and Bwlch-y-rhiw Baptist Churches in Carmarthenshire, 1814-29, in the hand of David Thomas (1756-1840), Llwyn (ywermwd), Llan-y-crwys. Numerous insets, also largely in his hand, include additional statistics and accounts, 1812-35; a letter of dimission, 1830; Welsh hymns; a personal and farm account book of David Thomas, 1814-18 and 1831-2; veterinary recipes; an account of money collected by Joshua Thomas, Llwyn on his bidding day, 1815, etc. Two leaves used by the scribe for the sake of the blank dorse are bidding letters from Llaewenog [sic] [Llanwenog], 1814, Cardiganshire and Llanllwny, 1829, Carmarthenshire.

A home-made volume, roughly bound in parchment, containing transcripts of hymns and some sermon notes in the hand of David Thomas, Llwynywermwd, Llan-y-crwys, son of the Reverend Zacharias Thomas, Baptist minister, of Aberdyar, etc. The volume was compiled during the period 1805-1806. Among the papers used to compile the manuscript are an agreement, 1790, for the lease, from W. Williams to Zacharias Thomas, of Emlych, parish of Penbrey, co. Carmarthen; a voucher, 1797, to Zacharias Thomas from D. J. Jenkins, Lampeter, for a waistcoat, etc.; and a holograph letter from John Williams, Carmarthen, to Zech. Thomas, 1802 ( the distribution of 'papers' to the Association and the churches). The volume also includes the score of a hymn-tune entitled 'Difyrwch gwyr y Gogledd'.

A typescript copy of a Baptist church register entitled 'Llyfr Cofnodol Perthynol I Eglwys Gristianogol Dan yr Enw Y Bedyddwyr Neulltyol Yn Cyfarfod yn ngyd ar brydiau i Dori Bara yn yr Amriwiol Leoedd Canlynol Sef Argoed a Phenycoed yn Sir Abertifi Abarduar Bwlch y rhiw Bethel a Salem Yn Sir Gaerfyrddin &c'. The original register covers the period 1751-1857, while Evan Lewis's transcript [see note under 561 below] was used independently and unofficially till 1875 and varies considerably from the original after 1841. The first part of the original register, from 1751 to 1765, is in the hand of the Reverend Timothy Thomas ('Y wisg Wen Ddisglair') of Aberduar, but the greater part of the volume was written by his brother the Reverend Zacharias Thomas and by the latter's son David Thomas of Llwynywermwd, Llan-y-crwys. Most of the entries recorded by David Thomas, from 1789 to 1839, relate only to the churches of Bethel (Caeo), Salem (Caeo), and Bwlch-y-rhiw.
