Most of the letters are from A. J. Sylvester, Principal Private Secretary to Lloyd George, to Major Edgar Jones, father of Gareth Jones. There also photocopies of the journal The Critic for 24 August 1935 which contains a tribute to Gareth Jones.

Papers, 1955, 1979-1982, of Dr Edward Lewis Ellis (1922-2008), senior lecturer in History at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, relating to his research for his biography of Dr Thomas Jones CH published as T.J. : A Life of Doctor Thomas Jones, CH (Cardiff, 1992). The correspondents include A. J. Sylvester, 1979 and Eirene White, 1978 and 1979.

J. Sylvester to David Morley relating to investigations into the death of Gareth Jones; an account by Baron von Plessen, entitled 'Ill-fated Journey', of the circumstances leading up to Gareth Jones's death; a biographical note on Dr Herbert Mueller; and correspondence, 2001-02, concerning the award of the Gareth Jones Travelling Scholarship.

The file includes a typescript 'Political Operation Order', 6 December 1916, namely spoof regulations for the departure of the Asquith family from 10 Downing Street and the arrival of the Lloyd Georges; and a memorandum, 5 May 1936, prepared by A. J. Sylvester for D. Lloyd George on the likely reconstruction of the National Government.

Includes many letters and other papers relating to David Davies's decision to retire as the Liberal MP for Montgomeryshire. There are several letters from the officials of the Montgomeryshire Liberal Association. The correspondents include Charles Hobhouse, Professor T. A. Levi, Aberystwyth, Professor Gilbert Murray, and A. J. Sylvester (2 letters).
