History

The John Tripp Literary Award was launched in memory of John Tripp in 1989 and was designed to encourage short story writing. The first award was presented in late May 1990. In 1991, the rules of the award changed and the prize was awarded for the best piece of spoken poetry. Tripp was an enthusiastic member of both the Academi and the Welsh Union of Writers and the award was managed by trustees from both bodies.
