Goronwy R. Jones of Ynysybwl and William J. Fortt of Cilfynydd were miners' agents in collieries around Pontypridd, Glamorgan, in the 1950s and 1960s. Jones had been expelled from the Labour Party in 1941 because of his association with the People's Vigilance Movement, and he subsequently joined the Communist Party.
