History

Thomas Mervyn Jones (1910-1989), public servant, was born in Llandinam, Montgomeryshire and educated in Newtown and at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and Cambridge University. After training as a lawyer and working in local government in Newport, Monmouthshire, he was appointed chairman of the Wales Gas Board in 1948, and of the Wales Tourist Board in 1970. He retired in 1976, and died in 1989 after compiling his memoirs.
