History

The Library Advisory Council for Wales was created under the Public Libraries & Museums Act 1964, to advise the Secretary of State for Education and Science, and from 1 April 1978, to advise the Secretary of State for Wales (who from that time took over responsibility for public library services in Wales). The Library Advisory Council (England) had a similar role in England while the British Library Advisory Council advised the British Library. The Library Advisory Council for Wales later became the Library and Information Services Council for Wales (LISC).
