Margaret Sidney Davies of Gregynog (1884-1963), art collector, benefactress and the sister of Gwendoline Davies and David Davies, Lord Davies of Llandinam, was heavily involved in many philanthropic and artistic enterprises, including the Gregynog Press and a number of charity homes. In 1930, she founded the Ty Gwyn Charity Convalescent Home at Llwyngwril, Merionethshire, which was intended to benefit ill-nourished girls, especially those from South Wales. It ran until 1961, and a similar venture, the White House charity at Folkestone in Kent, ran from 1928 until 1963. Margaret Davies also founded the Boverton Girls' Camp and Hafod Rest Home, near Llantwit Major, Glamorgan, in 1932. Boverton was a summer recreation camp for girls from mining areas, whilst Hafod catered for women related to employees of the Ocean Coal Company. Both were closed in 1949.
