The fonds comprises material dating between 1963 and 2001, consisting mainly of correspondence, [c.1970]-2001, between the Federation and various musical societies on matters of financial aid and membership fees, providing a valuable overview of a wide range of musical activities throughout Wales. It also contains correspondence with other arts organisations and bodies, both national and regional, copies of rules, constitutions and accounts of the various constituent societies as well as programmes, leaflets, posters and other printed ephemera, covering the period from 1963 to 2001. Several files contain papers relating specifically to the Federation's internal committees. Only one file relates to the Federation's own administration.

Radio scripts

The series comprises typescripts of radio lecture-recitals and talks by W. S. Gwynn Williams, entitled 'The Spirit of Welsh Music', 1925 and 1927, 'Nationality in Music', 1927, 'The Making of Music', 1927, 'The Music of Wales and the Eisteddfod', 1929, and a few related typescript programmes. Some of these were broadcast during the period he was in charge of Welsh programmes from the Irish stations at Dublin and Cork, 1928-1930.

Music manuscripts, notebooks, papers relating to the National Museum of Wales and the University of Wales, and other miscellaneous material belonging to Dr Mary Davies (1855-1930) and her husband, W. Cadwaladr Davies (1849-1905). Amongst the papers is a later copy of a collection of Welsh airs, compiled and arranged by 'Orpheus' [James James] for the Eisteddfod at Llangollen, 1858 (now NLW Minor Deposit 150B).
