Thomas Owen ('Hesgin', 1872-1956), was born in Cwm Hesgin, parish of Llanfor, Merionethshire. He competed in various local Eisteddfodau and in the National Eisteddfod of Wales, mainly essays and short stories, and wrote articles and numerous letters to newspapers and other publications. He was the Secretary of the Swansea District Committee, 1938-1939, which was formed in connection with the National Petition for the Legal Recognition of the Welsh Language in Wales, and he was also Honorary Secretary of the New Wales Union ('Undeb Cymru Fydd') for West Glamorgan.
