History

This small estate was owned successively by the Lloyd and Kyffin families of Bodfach, Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, until the marriage, in 1738, of Elizabeth Kyffin, daughter and heiress of William Kyffin of Bodfach, with Adam Pryse of Glan Meheli, Kerry, Montgomeryshire. Their son, Edward Pryse (or Pryce) inherited Bodfach, Glan Meheli and the Boultisbrook estate in Radnorshire. His daughter Anne, and heiress of all his estates, married Bell Lloyd of Pontriffith in the Vale of Clwyd in 1758, who appears to have acquired the Berthlwyd estate around 1760. His uncle Edward Lloyd, said to have been Secretary for War and created a baronet in 1778, married Anna Maria, daughter and heiress of Edward (or Evan) Lloyd of Pengwern, Flintshire. When Sir Edward Lloyd died without issue in 1795, the Pengwern estate descended upon his grand-nephew, Edwrad Pryce Lloyd, who also inherited the Bodfach and Berthlwyd estate from his father Bell Lloyd who died in 1793.

Edward Pryce Lloyd, married Elizabeth, sister and co-heir of Sir Thomas Mostyn of Mostyn, bart, in 1794, and was created Baron Mostyn in 1831. Sir Thomas died without issue and left the Mostyn estate to his nephew Sir Edward Mostyn Lloyd Mostyn, who was later created Baron Mostyn of Mostyn. He died in 1884.
