A copy of Evan Griffiths, Esponiad ar y Bibl Sanctaidd ... Cyfrol IV (Abertawy, 1835) with leaves pasted to the stubs of leaves excised at the beginning of the volume, on which Wiliam Siôn (1874-1947), Cefn Cribwr, Tythegston, later of Cymer, Glyncorrwg, co. Glamorgan, has transcribed, 1929, Welsh poetry in strict metre from Cardiff MS 5.44, 'Llyfr Hir Llanharan' (written c. 1613, by Llywelyn Siôn), ff. 1-14 and compiled lists of the contents of the original manuscript (ff. iv, xix-xxxi verso), of the poets whose works it contains (ff. xi-xvi verso, xxxii-iv) and of the patrons to whom they sang (ff. v-x). Also included are a biographical note on Llywelyn Siôn (f. iii verso), and a brief account of 'Y Wentaeg', the Welsh dialect of Gwent, Morgannwg and part of Brycheiniog (f. lxxxi recto-verso).

Journal of a tour in France and Switzerland, June-[September] 1833, made by Mrs C. Jones, lady's maid, apparently from north-east Wales, accompanying her employers, William Henry Fox Talbot of Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire, and his wife, Charlotte [Constance in Oxford Dictionary of National Biography WWW site] (née Munby), and Mademoiselle Amélina Petit de Billier (c. 1798-1876), family friend and former governess to William Talbot's half-sisters. Entries from 8 September, when she joined her new employer (see note under 544, below), a Miss York, in Geneva, until her return to England on 22 September, are in pencil, overwritten with transcripts of poetry; miscellaneous commonplace entries, 1833-c. 1858, were added by Mrs Jones both during and after the tour and later by other hands.

A volume relating to the murder in 1770 of William Powell, Glanareth, Llangadog, co. Carmarthen, compiled, ca. 1850, by Charles John Bird (1777-1854), rector of Mordiford, co. Hereford. It comprises copies of An Authentic Trial of William Spiggot [and others] ... for the Inhuman Murder of William Powell ... (Hereford, 1770) (wanting final leaf, the deficiency supplied in manuscript) (pp. 7-46), and The Trial of William Spiggot [and others] ... (Glocester, [1770]) (pp. 75-90); and memoranda, notes, and extracts from printed sources concerning the case in the hand of C. J. Bird, including a transcript of an account published in the Hereford Journal, 31 March 1771, of the trial and acquittal of Powell's brother-in-law, Marmaduke Bowen, Cil-y-cwm, co. Carmarthen, and others as being accessories before and after the fact [in which trial C. J. Bird's father, William Bird, defended the accused] (pp. 49-73).

A late fifteenth-century illuminated manuscript of Les Stratagèmes, the French version of the Latin Stratagemata of Julius Sextus Frontinus, translated, [1439x1460], for Charles VII, king of France, by Jean de Rovroy (fl. 1388-1460), dean of the faculty of theology at the University of Paris, who has added extracts, in French, from the Epitoma Rei Militaris of Vegetius (see R. Bossuat, 'Jean de Rovroy, traducteur des Stratagèmes de Frontin', Bibliothèque d'Humanisme et Renaissance, 22 (1960), 273-86, 469-89). Written by one scribe, 'H. G.', in France (f. 70 verso). Decorated initials with burnished gold for all books and chapters; other initials and paragraph marks in alternate red and blue. Four polychrome miniatures, one representing the translator presenting his book to Charles VII, probably the work of Robinet Testard (fl. 1484-1523), miniaturist to count Charles d'Angoulême (1459 or 1460-1496), later to his wife, Louise de Savoie (1476-1531); retouched in XIX cent.

Account book of John Jones (b. 1815), Llwyn-gog, Pontrhydfendigaid, co. Cardigan, carpenter and stonemason, containing accounts and other memoranda, 1857-1904, mainly relating to building and maintenance work undertaken and including details of payments to craftsmen and labourers. Included are accounts relating to the construction of the English Wesleyan chapel, Aberystwyth, 1869-70 (ff. 109-17, 124 verso-5). The volume also includes diary entries, 1854-9, written in Welsh and comprising mainly a daily work record but also including references to family and local affairs (ff. 1-51); and other miscellaneous material. A letter, 1862, from the Reverend John Phillips, Normal College, Bangor, to Thomas Hopkins, Pentonville, found loose inside, has been tipped in at the end of the volume (f. 324).

A typescript volume containing transcripts of talks and speeches in debates, 1898-9, given by members of the Cardiff Pickwick Club, compiled by the secretary, Charles Winn Jones (d. 1952). A brief history of the Club since its formation in 1898 is included on ff. 191-6.

Account book, mainly in Welsh, of John Hughes (d. 1869), Glan-cell, parish of Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn, co. Cardigan, containing personal accounts and memoranda, 1836-61. The volume was later used to record particulars of payments to visiting ministers and other accounts, 1882-1913, of Rhos-y-gell Calvinistic Methodist chapel, parish of Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn.

A log-book of the ship British Monarch, kept by the commander, Thomas Bowen Rees, containing an account of her voyage from Liverpool to Calcutta, June-October 1865 (ff. 1 verso-23 verso), and from Calcutta to London, December 1865 - April 1866 (inverted text ff. 27-54 verso). Also included is a draft letter, ca. 1866, from Thomas Bowen Rees to 'Mrs Rowlands', ?'Yet y Cwrt', near Newport, co. Pembroke (inverted text f. 26 recto-verso); and notes in Welsh in praise of the Sunday School (inverted text ff. 24-5 verso).

An album containing book-plates and book labels, 18th-20th centuries, mainly of members of various prominent Welsh and English families, including those of George Rice, 2nd baron Dynevor, John Patrick Crichton-Stuart, 3rd marquis of Bute, Herbert Vaughan, Llangoedmore, Sir Thomas Bonsall, Fronfraith, and Sir John Williams, Plas Llanstephan.

Eighteen letters, 1921, from Lieutenant A. O. Gillitt of the Portsmouth C Battalion, Royal Navy, to his wife, whilst posted to Newport and Abertyleri, co. Monmouth, during the coalminers' national strike, following a mutiny by members of the Royal Fleet Reserve sent there to protect the pits.
