History

The South Wales Women's Support groups were especially active during the miners' strike between 1984 and 1985. The wives of the miners played a big role in the strike, appearing on the picket lines alongside the men and attending rallies. They marched behind banners with slogans such as Women Against Pit Closures. Furthermore they organised events to support the striking miners such as jumble sales and sponsored walks, and organised food parcels and soup kitchens.
