History
The University of Wales Press was established following one of the recommendations of the Haldane Commission which reported in 1918. It was set up by statute in 1922. The Press claimed in 1934 that its aims were to publish Welsh texts for University students, Welsh history books, books in Welsh for the general public and 'standard readers' for use in schools. Some of the emphasis has altered since 1934 however, and the Press - which is a publishing house - now publishes in selected fields within the humanities, modern languages and social science as well as publishing dictionaries, reference-works, and books for schools and adult education. The Press is run by a Director and a Press Management Board.
