History

John Jones, a Unitarian minister and schoolteacher, was born in Llanarth, Ceredigion in 1802. He was educated at the Davis Castellhywel School and the Presbyterian College, Carmarthen, 1925-1927. In 1831 he set up a school at Cribyn in conjunction with the Rev. Rees Davies and, in 1833, was inducted minister of Hen Dŷ Cwrdd Unitarian chapel, Aberdare. He also opened a secondary school at Heol-y-felin and published numerous works.

In 1834 he married Anne Rees of Gilgellisaf, near Lampeter. Rees Jenkin Jones was their son. John Jones died in Aberdare in 1863.
