History

Cae'r berllan had originally been inherited by Jane Williams (married to William John ap Richard), from her uncle, Robert Hughes, who died in 1670. The estate was inherited in turn, c. 1691, by her son, John Williams, who was married to Grace Williams of Coed Mawr, Caerhun. Their daughter, another Jane Williams, married Thomas Hughes, son of Hugh Roberts of Gwydir and Llwyn Gronw in 1703. The eldest son of that marriage was Robert Hughes, who died in 1740, leaving Cae'r berllan to his younger brother, John, father of Jane Hughes, who married John Griffith (3) of Garn in 1762, and Elizabeth, who married Rev. Peter Williams of St Asaph in 1784.
