Scope and content

Crisis because interest on mortgages not paid, urges establishment of sinking fund, impossibility of raising any more money on estate and Mr Jenkyns' threats. He fears Mr Appleyard does not understand the situation. Heavy snow delayed mail. WEP's demand for examination of account books and his unjust treatment of the writer. Protests he has always been devoted to WEP's interests, and saved him from heavy losses, and regrets that he has allowed people to defame his character. He is prepared to accept arbitration rather than legal proceedings, but will not hesitate to resort to a court of justice should they not reach a fair agreement. In No. 430 he asks Mrs Powell, WEP's mother, for receipts for payments received.
