Biographical history
Anne Griffith Jones, a prominent figure in Aberdare, was born in 1852, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Evan Griffiths. In 1877 she married the Rev. Rees Jenkin Jones whom she assisted in the Trecynon Seminary and at Clifton Street. She took an active part in the public life of Aberdare and was one of the first in the town to campaign for women's suffrage. In 1891 she was appointed Treasurer of the local Women's Liberal Association. She was prominent in the local Temperance Association, a guardian of the Merthyr Workhouse Visiting Committee, and a governor of the Intermediate School. Some of her articles were published in Yr Ymofynydd, The Stepping Stone and local newspapers. She died in 1899.
