Scope and content

Answer of Griffith Prichard, John David Morgan and Lewis ap Hugh, three of the defendants to the bill of complaint of John Pugh, esq., touching the claim of the lord of manors or lordships Arwystly and Keviliogg to a mise of £300 from the freeholders or tenants. Defendants say that the sense of the Welsh word Treth warrogeth signifies 'the necke yoke mise', which implies a servile tenure which they conceive themselves not liable unto, as they hold their lands in free socage tenure, paying only small chief rents to the lord. They refer to the old status of a lordship marcher, which is now dissolved. Copies.
