Biographical history
The Bathafarn Park branch of the Thelwall family descended from Eubule Thelwall of Plas y Ward, Denbighshire, and his second wife Margaret, whose son John Thelwall is noted as residing at Bathafarn Park. John's eldest son and heir was John Wynne Thelwall (1528-1586). John was succeeded at Bathafarn Park by his eldest son, John Thelwall (d. 1630). One of John's younger brothers, Richard (d. 1630), married Margaret, daughter and heiress of John Lloyd of Llanbedr. The Llanbedr estate then descended in the male line until the Rev.Edward Thelwall, who sold the estate in around 1804 to Joseph Ablett. The Llanbedr estate then passed to John Jesse (1801-1863).
The Bathafarn estate descended in the male line after John Thelwall (d.1630) until the death of another John Thelwall, whose heir was his daughter, Mary. She married Robert Price of Rhiwlas (d. 1766). Their son, Thelwall Price, bequeathed the Bathafarn estate on his death to his cousin Richard Price-Thelwall (1720-1775). Richard, on his death in 1775, bequeathed the estate to Richard Tavistock, alias Richard Price (1755-1794).
