Biographical history
Timothy Lewis (1877-1958), Welsh literary scholar, was born in Efail-wen, Cilymaenllwyd, Pembrokeshire. He graduated from University College, Cardiff, in 1904, and went on to undertake research into early Welsh at Manchester and Berlin. He joined the University College, Aberystwyth, in 1910 as assistant lecturer and later became reader in Celtic Palaeography. He served in the Royal Artillery in France, 1915-1918. Timothy Lewis married Nellie Myfanwy Evans (1885-1968) in 1910, and had a son and a daughter.

A volume of notes taken by Timothy Lewis at Dr J. Gwenogvryn Evans's lectures on palaeography at the University of Manchester, 1906-1907 (ff. 20-56); Lewis's printed registration book for the University of Berlin, 1908 (ff. 57-68); and a manuscript 'Bibliography of Material relating to the History of Wales' in the hand of E[dward] A[rthur] Lewis, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1900-1901 (ff. 1-19).
The registration book lists lectures to be taken, October 1908-March 1909 (ff. 59 verso-60), but is otherwise unused.
