Scope and content

This collection documents anti-apartheid activism in Wales, particularly campaigns supporting the boycott of South Africa. It contains correspondence, newspaper cuttings, leaflets, statements, reports, promotional materials and photographs relating to economic, cultural and sporting sanctions against the apartheid regime. The records include material from the Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement (WAAM), campaigns against South African rugby and cricket tours, correspondence involving Peter Hain, the ANC and other organisations, and discussions surrounding the lifting of sanctions. Also included are original letters from prominent Welsh public figures, minutes of WAAM meetings and conferences, photographs of rallies in Newport and Cardiff, press releases, and historical newspaper reports on apartheid in South Africa.
