Biographical history
James Coleman was a collector from London who collected over 50,000 deeds from England and Wales, including about 950 documents relating to Wales. Some of the deeds he had collected relating to Wales had been sold prior to the NLW's purchase.
Archival history
The deeds were collected by James Coleman. Some of the deeds had been disposed of before the National Library came into existence. Some counties have a limited number of deeds as a result.
