The fonds comprises papers accumulated by Bert Pearce including the minutes and papers of the Communist Party Great Britain, 1921-1998, Communist Party Wales, 1884-2002, and the Democratic Left, 1978-1999. Also included are papers relating to elections, devolution in Wales and Scotland, industry, miners strikes, anti-apartheid, international affairs, peace movement, Peoples March for Jobs, and the poll tax campaign. The accumulated papers reflect Bert Pearce's life work for the Communist Party in Birmingham and Wales, as well as the active part he played in the campaigns listed above. The archive does not contain personal material.

Photocopies of papers, 1925-1951, of Denis Martin (1919-1998), relating to the Communist Party, including press cuttings concerning George Edward Maslin [d. 1951] of Tylorstown, a founder member of the Communist Party in Rhondda and a Communist District Councillor; election addresses of George Edward Maslin and Elizabeth Jessie Collingbourne for the Rhondda District Council elections, 1946; and the election address of Arthur Horner (1894-1968) for the Rhondda East By-election, 1933.

Papers of Idris Cox, 1934-1985, comprising draft autobiography (unpublished), 'From Coal Mines to Communist Ideals', and photocopy of a more complete version held by Univeristy of Wales, Swansea; correspondence, 1960-1983; pamphlets, lectures and broadcasts by Cox, 1936-1984; Communist Party pamphlets, 1930-1963; and miscellaneous, 1934--1985.
