Scope and content
The first deposit of the records of the Conservative Party (Wales), comprising minutes of committees, 1937-1986, and printed ephemera relating mainly to the 1992 and 1997 general elections.
A second large group comprising 78 large boxes and 2 volumes were received in September 2012, which includes a most substantial archive of records generated by the Welsh Conservative Party, c. 1950-2010, but mainly from the post-1990 period. Many derive from parliamentary, local, European and National Assembly elections, and relate to candidate selection and the conduct and progress of the various election campaigns. Other records derive from the internal administration of the party, its various committees and working parties (including agenda and minutes), its annual and ad hoc conferences, general correspondence, and events and functions in the Welsh constituencies, including letters and reports from local agents. There are also copies of the party's many publications and some financial records. Other papers relate to the relationship with the Conservative Party nationally . This group was a donation, and has not as yet been catalogued. Board minutes, donated by Mr Lyndon Jones, the former Chairman of the Conservative Party Wales are under Embargo for a period of 30 years from the date of each individual meeting.
