General Lazar Meszaros was the Head of the Hungarian Army and Miniaster of War who lived in exile after the failure of the War of Independence in 1849. he died in England and was buried in Titley with a request that his body should not be returned to his homeland while there were foreign soldiers on its soil. As constituency MP, Peter Temple-Morris was involved with the repatriation of the General's body after the withdrawal of Societ troops from Hungary in 1991.
