Biographical history

Edward Griffith was born in Barmouth. He established a flourishing draper's business in Dolgellau and became involved to a great degree in the public life of the town. He became a noted local historian, writing a series of articles on the Quakers in Y Geninen and, in 1880, he was made a justice of the peace. He strove to promote education in the area and was a member of the governing body of Dr Williams's school.

Archival history

Some of the manuscripts were once in the possession of Evan Jones (Ieuan Gwynedd), David Richards (Dafydd Ionawr) and Robert Oliver Rees. NLW MS 2691D was once in the possession of the Owen family of Pant Philip, near Dolgellau.
