History

The Eytons of Old Leeswood, Flintshire had been established as a prominent family in the Mold area for some six generations before they acquired the estate of the Hope family of Broughton in the parishes of Hawarden and Hope, also in Flintshire, through the marriage, c. 1752, of the Reverend John Eyton and Penelope (née Hope). In 1813 their son, the Reverend Hope Eyton (later Hope Wynne Eyton) purchased Leeswood Hall; he served as vicar of Mold from 1792 until his death in 1824. Jane, the daughter of Robert Lloyd of Swanhill, Oswestry, married, in 1814, John Wynne Eyton, the son of Hope Wynne Eyton. Katherine Eyton (née Mainwaring) was the wife of Thomas Wynne Eyton of Leeswood Hall.
