Note
B. G. Charles, in NLW Journal, II (1941), p. 45, notes that the outer leaf (f. 1) carried an inscription which read '4 m'tii 1601, notes to the booke of 8 ancestors with the armes'. This note, as well as notes on f. 16v, are now only partly legible under ultra-violet light and photostat copies of both folios are included in the volume. A folio reference to the 'Book of Eight Ancestors' is to be found at the head of each note, the highest folio number being 97, which indicates the size of this unknown genealogical manuscript. Dr Charles suggests that the present manuscript carried notes to supplement that work.
