Scope and content
Although the lease books do not constitute an extensive series of estate records, they can provide some interesting information, including details of the lease, lessee (including successive lessees of the same property), the property concerned (often described in detail), the term of the lease and rents. With the exception of AGL 1/5, the entries in these volumes are frequently annotated and altered. There are references to ledgers, possibly the series of rent ledgers AGD 1-2.

System of arrangement
The lease books are arranged as follows: summaries of leases arranged by parishes, 1827-1957 (AGL 1/1-4); summary lease books for Cardiff, 1824-1951 (AGL 1/5-10) not apparently arranged in any particular pattern, although AGL 1/6 seems to consist of the Westville Road area, and AGL 1/9-10 are concerned with the South Splottland areas; and summaries of building leases arranged by town, 1824-1957 (AGL 1/11-16). How closely these three groups of books correlate to the Glamorgan, Cardiff and Glamorgan town estates has not been tested.
