Archival history

On p. 1, ‘Rev. Lewis Owen of Waen fach Llanegryn’. Many headings have been added by a hand of [mid-18 cent.] (e.g. pp. 35, 41, 292); this does not appear to be the hand of David Ellis [died 1795; cf. RMWL], though Ellis in Cwrtmawr MS 12 did transcribe from this manuscript in 1794, when it belonged to Griffith Roberts. The hand of Griffith Roberts occurs on pp. 32 and 269. There is annotation by another hand of [18 cent.] in pencil on, e.g., pp. 82, 87, 301. Pages 324-59, loose papers of [19 cent.] now on guards, relate to Guto’r Glyn and the contents of the manuscript; they include letters to W.W.E. Wynne from Howel W. Lloyd.

Scope and content

A collection of the work of Guto’r Glyn, followed on pp. 234-321 by other cywyddau of [15 cent.], all in the hand of Robert Vaughan, writing [mid-17cent., not before 1654]. The beginning of the manuscript was already wanting when it was paginated in [18 cent.]; its end is also wanting. Vaughan added a few variant readings (e.g. pp. 9-11). One watermark appears to be Heawood 3627 [not before 1654].
