Copies of accounts of Thomas Leinthall in account with Charles Morgan, esq., taken from books marked A, B, C1, C2, G, H, K, M and O, the Arkstone Ledger marked E, and parcels marked N, P, Q and R. An account of errors corrected and omissions taken notice of is marked T. At the rear of the bundle are further copies of the receipts from book A and the account from book B. The account was settled between Thomas Leinthall, administrator of Thomas Leinthall, dec., and John Morgan, esq., administrator of Charles Morgan, esq., dec., 1 Jan. 1790. -- Very few placenames are mentioned, but include Llanllowdy (p. 13), St Weonard and Pencoyd (p. 15) and Triago (pp. 49, 169). Account H includes an account of cash received and paid in the management of Arkstone estate. Account K, 'the conversion of woods', includes references to Wernddu Wood, Little Park Coppice, Lanlowdy Coppice, Booths Wood, the Pools, Glasshouse Coppice, Priors Wood and Gwillims Wood. Other accounts include such items as the purchase of 3 gross of long corks, 11lb of toasting cheese, 1 stone of candles and two chamber pots (all p. 40), 256 feet of thatching at the glasshouse, two frails, a new tressell for the dog wheel, 3lb of lump sugar and land tax (all p. 41), regular purchases of large quantities of meat, some at least at Monmouth (eg, p. 40), the carriage of wheat to Monmouth (p. 61), the sale of cattle bought at Ross, Abergavenny, Longtown, Llanwarn and Monmouth (pp. 70-71), clock cleaning, sash pullies and spriggs, the cherry woman to buy a lock for the cherry house door and a wontcatcher (all p. 149). The account of annuities paid pursuant to the will of Mrs Morgan (C1 and C2) includes the payment of the interest on £700 to each of the parishes of Kingston and St Weonards.
