A composite volume comprising: (I) Four booklets in the hand of David Jones ('Dewi Fardd', 1708?-85), Trefriw containing an incomplete text of his '[Cronicl] Hanes [Cymru] a'i Thrig[olion] er amser Julius Caesa[r] hyd amser neu Deyrna[siad] y Brenhin Iago y Cyntaf'; a 'cywydd' by Tho. Prys; an incomplete list of titles (pp. 484-526) in David Jones : Blodeu-gerdd Cymry (Y Mwythig, 1759); and carols, etc., among them 'Newyddion Gyng'aneddau' by David Jones. (Ii) A booklet largely in the hand of Evan Thomas (ob. 1781), Cwmhwylfod, Sarnau, near Bala containing extracts from Y Drych Cristianogawl (Rhotomagi, 1585); and poetry in strict and free metres by Evan James, Sr. Rogier, Edward Sam[ue]l, Dafydd yn Ifan ('o Lanfair Careinion'), Edwart Moris, John Edward Ma..., Hugh Hughes and John William(s); and anonymous compositions, among them a 'Hymn yngulch duwdod Iesu Grist ...'. The spine is lettered 'Mân Lyfrau Dewi Fardd ac eraill'.

Emynau John Williams, Sain Tathan

An imperfect volume of hymns by and in the hand of John Williams (1728-1806) of St Athan, Glamorgan. The titles include 'Can Nalolig [sic] nei Haul Song ar Washinton's March'; 'Hymn ar y Tweed'; 'Arall ar yr adnodau blaena or 63 o Esia' ('Pwy welaf o Edon [sic] yn dod ...'); 'Arall ar yr adnodau cyn[t]af o 5 o Datg[u]ddiad'; 'Rhai myfyrdodau mewn twymin ar y nerfiau yr hon a barhodd o ddechre awst i ddiwedd medi 1789'; ['Cân Ddiddarfod'] with annotations ('diwedd llan Tathan Gorphen Haf 1791 J.W.') (printed in Gomer Morgan Roberts: Bywyd a Gwaith Peter Williams (Caerdydd, 1943), pp. 155-160); 'Ar gini winser'; etc. Insets include a typescript copy of 'Can V' [i.e. 'Cân Ddiddarfod'] from Can Diddarfod: sef, Pennillion Addysgiadol, o gyfansoddiad Ioan ap Gwilim, St Athan ... ([Caerfyrddin] 1793); 'Darn o Hymn o waith y diweddar Barchedig Peter Will[iams] o Gaerfyrddin' (written on the blank leaf of a letter addressed to Griffith Williams, Ynyswaun, Llanor, Llyn (printed in Gomer Morgan Roberts: op. cit., p. 170)); John Williams: Carol Plygain neu Gan Nadolig (Caerlleon, n.d.); and a cutting from Seren [Cymru], 18 August [19]16, of a letter by H[ywel] C[ernyw] Williams, relating to the authorship of a hymn by John Williams. The original brown paper cover is inscribed 'ir Parch[ed]ig Mr Peter Williams' and the modern cloth binding is lettered in gold 'MS Parch. J. Williams, 1791'.

Emynau Ieuan Lleyn ac eraill,

A small notebook containing hymn stanzas partly in the autograph of D. Silvan Evans and partly in another hand [? that of John Henry (Silvan) Evans, son of D. Silvan Evans]. The hymns attributed to [Evan Pritchard] 'Ieuan Lleyn' are 'Nesau mae'r dydd - O ddedwydd wawr!' and 'Gweithredoedd Rhagluniaeth' ('Mor amlwg rhyfeddol weithredoedd ....'); in the case of the remainder the author's name is not given.
