Breconshire farm estate rent ledgers

The series comprises rent ledgers 'F', containing ledger accounts relating to the farm rents in the Breconshire estate country parishes.
The Breconshire estate ledgers (ABA 4-7) contain the accounts of the individual tenants with the landlord, 1867-1941. Each account continues for the period of the tenancy, with the balance of account transferred from the old ledger to the new ledger. The tenantry of the Breconshire estate are divided into sub-estates, creating four series of ledgers: Brecon rents (B), 1868-1923, Dderw estate rents (D), 1916-23, Farm rents (F, for the 'country' parishes), 1867-1921, and Palleg estate rents (P), 1867-1941. The covering dates of some of the volumes in the same series can overlap, as busy accounts were often transferred to new ledger while slower accounts lingered in the old ledger. Consequently, volumes tended to be discontinued well before they were full, when the slower accounts were finally transferred en masse to the new ledger. Some of the rent ledger volumes include an index of tenants' names. -- Most of the properties in this series of ledgers appear to have been sold in 1915, and some of the other accounts are balanced and transferred to 'Ledger D' (ABA 7/1).

Breconshire memorandum books

ABO 1/1 is a Breconeshire estate agent's account and memorandum book, 1819-1838. ABO 1/2 is a Brecon estate office memorandum book, 1880-1896. ABO 1/3-4 are memorandum books relating to audits and repairs on the Breconshire estate, 1886-1900 and 1910-11 respectively.

Breconshire tithe ledgers

Ledgers of tithe rent charge accounts. ABT 2/1-2 and 2/4-5 contain receipt accounts. The accounts in ABT 2/1 are carried forward from an 'old ledger book' (eg, fo. 19, Philip Davies, Pwllycalch, from 'O.L.B. 178'). The accounts are carried from 2/1 to 2/2 to 2/4. Most of the properties seem to have been sold during the lifetime of ABT 2/4 (1906-36). The twelve accounts in ABT 2/5 appear to have been kept separate from the main series of tithe ledger accounts; eleven were sold as of 29 Sept. 1921, and the twelfth as from 2 Feb. 1922. ABT 2/3 contains payment accounts, but has been kept in this series for convenience.

Breconshire tithe receipt counterfoil books

Books of counterfoils of demands for tithes, the counterfoil being ticked to denote that the tithe had been received. ABT 5/1 comprises a book of counterfoils of demands for tithes due on holdings in the parish of Ystradgynlais, 1912-15. ABT 5/2 also relates to holdings in the parish of Ystradgynlais, 1914-15. All but two of the counterfoils are dated 11 Feb. 1914, with one deleted counterfoil dated 7 June 1915, and one counterfoil dated 17 Sept. 1915. ABT 5/3 is a book of counterfoils of demands for tithes due on holdings in the parishes of St John and St Mary, 1926-28. ABT 5/4-5 are books of counterfoils of demands for tithes due on holdings in Breconshire, 1935-36 and 1936-37.
