A group of manuscripts that form part of an extensive collection of Pembrokeshire documents and papers from the offices of Messrs. Williams & Williams, solicitors, Haverfordwest.

Papers, 1907-1988, mainly relating to the activities of the Labour Party in Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire, 1917-1967, including: papers of the Llanelli Trades Council and Divisional Labour Party, including minute books, 1940-1967; accounts, financial papers and cash books, 1925-1967; correspondence, 1921-1967; miscellaneous papers, 1917-1967; press cuttings, 1926-1959; and general election papers, 1931-1964; political and professional papers of Loti Rees Hughes, including correspondence, minute books and press cuttings, 1927-1965; and personal and family papers, 1935-1969; papers of W. Douglas Hughes [c. 1920]-1968, including correspondence, 1932-1967; notebooks, c. Papers of Gwyn Griffiths, 1970-1988, including various Liberal Party pamphlets, 1970-1981; papers concerning the Welsh League of Young Liberals, 1975-1977; correspondence and papers concerning the Liberal Ecology Group, 1978-1984; correspondence and papers concerning the Liberal Parliamentary Association, 1986-1988.

Family papers and estate records of the Williams family of Cwmcynfelyn, Cardiganshire, comprising rentals, 1833-[1885], valuations, [1849]-1879, financial papers, 1826-1899, deeds of the Cwmcynfelyn estate in north Cardiganshire, and in the parish of Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire 1773-1886, deeds relating to Penpompren in Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn, 1724-1791 (including a schedule of deeds dating back to 1694), which probably found their way to Cwmcynfelyn through the marriage of Matthew Davies Williams of Cwmcynfelyn and Susanna Griffith in 1828; papers relating to the Donisthorpe and Mapperley collieries, Leicestershire, 1874-1899; papers relating to the Gogerddan estate, Cardiganshire, accumulated by George Griffiths Williams as agent until his retirement, 1852-1895; and personal papers of Mathew Davies Williams, 1821-1864.

Deeds and documents relating to property in Llanfihangel Cwmdu and Llangynidr, Brecknockshire, 1609-1924; deeds relating to lands in the parish of Cathedine, Brecknockshire, 1800-1848, and deeds relating to the parish of Trallong, Brecknockshire, 1805-1839.

Volumes compiled by Thomas Bevan (Caradawc or Caradawc y Fenni), 1807-1881, which comprise an album and two scrapbooks of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc. The material is largely of Welsh literary and musical interest.

Papers relating to Richard Rees ('Maldwyn', 1851-1927), of Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, and Edward Walter Rees, ('Gwallter Dyfi', 1881-1940), of Carmarthen, including correspondence, 1874-1940; printed materials, 1866-1937; papers relating to the National Eisteddfod and the Gorsedd of Bards, 1909-1939; papers relating to the National Petition on the Legal Status of the Welsh Language, 1938-1939; papers relating to Maengwyn Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Machynlleth, 1875-1920; and various papers relating to manifold aspects of Machynlleth life.

Records of the Welsh Folk-Song Society, 1908-1993, including minutes, 1908-1957; correspondence, 1915-1975; reports, 1931-1957; financial papers, 1928-1953; publication material relating to the Journal, 1909-1954; executive committee and annual general meeting minutes, 1958-1993; and folk song material, including words and music collected by W. Emrys Cleaver, with related correspondence and notes, 1959-1964, and composed and arranged songs with related correspondence and notes, [1960s]. The correspondents include many prominent composers and musicians.

A further five volumes belonging to the Welsh Folk-Song Society were received. These remain uncatalogued.

Papers of Nick Ainger, 1992-1999, mainly constituents' files, 1992-1999; and subject files, 1991-1997, together with press releases and newspaper articles.

Papers of the composer and musician Prof. David Evans, [1880 x 1948], comprising full and fragment scores of choral music, including orchestral and vocal scores, cantatas, anthems, hymn tunes, carols and other sacred music, arrangements of welsh airs, miscellaneous compositions, compositions by other composers, together with miscellaneous material.

The archive consists almost entirely of deeds and documents relating mainly to the Tan-y-bwlch estate in Llanllechid and Bethesda, Caernarfonshire, 1650-1922.

A collection of manuscripts of Edmund James Jones (d. 1914), Fforest Legionis, Pontneddfechan, comprising miscellaneous papers, mostly poetry.

The records comprise the records of the Students' Representative Council, 1906-1938; minute books of Hall Councils, 1910-1942; the Amalgamation Fee Committee, 1915-1948; the Athletics Field Committee, 1926-1935; the Central Athletic Board, 1924-1942; the Botanical Club, 1928-1934; Y Gymdeithas Geltaidd/the Celtic Society, 1899-1927; the Cosmopolitan Club, 1938-1941; the Debates Union, 1933-1943; the Inter-College Eisteddfod Committees, 1930-1940; the Film Society, 1948-1949; the Gymnastic Club, 1921-1930; the Labour Club (jointly with University College, London), 1939-1944; the Literary and Debating Society, 1892-1923; the Music Union (jointly with University College, London), 1942-1944; the Scientific Society, 1911-1943; and the Sports Committee, 1920-1945.

Papers donated in 1933 by J. C. Owen, 1859-1921, dealing with tithes, rates, rent-charges, other parish accounts and miscellaneous ecclesiastical matters in various parishes in Cardiganshire and Brecknockshire with which the donor was connected. A second donation made in 1936 (listed elsewhere) comprises papers relating to J. C. Owen's ordination, 1883; a letter and other papers concerning the church and parish of Llanafan Fawr [1910]-1911; a copy of Y Dyddiadur Methodistaidd, 1864, with manuscript entries of preaching and other engagements, disbursements, etc.; miscellaneous papers including a list of vicars of Llanafan Fawr, 1486-1883; and items relating to the work of J. C. Owen.

Correspondence regarding membership, 1961-1988, correspondence with central office, 1970-1983; minutes of the Executive and Council, 1961-1985; annual reports, 1965-1981; files on planning office liaison scheme, 1972-1975; official Welsh Office descriptions of listed buildings, 1980-1981; listed building applications and related correspondence, 1970-1981; general correspondence, 1965-1990; correspondence relating to offprints scheme, 1966-1972; list of newsletter subscriptions , 1961-1978; financial papers, 1962-1982; applications for Scheduled Monument Consent, 1982- 1993; publicity booklets, pamphlets and sheets, 1964-1977; correspondence on archaeological topics, 1961-1981, including road planning, use of metal detectors, threats to monuments, individual developments, local structure plans and government consultaion documents, and Monmouthshire Archaeology hoaxes.

Additional records (29 large boxes), c. 1986-2005, comprising correspondence, plans, reports and other papers, were donated by the Council for British Archaeology (Wales) per Bob Silvester, in October 2005 (0200512249). These remain unlisted.
