A file consisting of six items, four of which refer to Trepached, while two also relate to the manor of Bryndehirog and two also to Court Peers, etc. Those relating to Trepached relate to the Court Baron of Sir Charles Somerset held on 28 May 1623 before John Williams, deputy steward, and include suit roll, bailiffs' and jury's presentments, and draft minutes. A file containing eleven signed and witnessed surrenders, etc., all for surrenders at the Castle Gate of Monmouth. The marginal heading is 'Manor of Monmouth with members', once 'Manors of Monmouth and Hadnock with members'. The steward is Thomas Evans, gent., described generally as 'one of the stewards'. The lands are described as in the parishes of Rochfield, Monmouth, St Maughans, and Llangattock vibon Avel, and in Hadnock. 11 Items, of which 9 are on parchment and 2 on paper, good condition.

A file containing forty-four signed and witnessed surrenders, and powers of attorney, etc., all of surrenders, at the Castle Gate of Monmouth. The marginal heading is 'Manor of Monmouth with members'. Up to 17 May 1691 Henry Milborne of Llanrothal, esq., is the chief steward, with Charles Milborne and Thomas Jones, and, later, John Price, acting as his deputy on various occasions. Thereafter, John Price of Trewew, co. Mon., gent., is described as chief steward, with William price once acting as his deputy. Of the forty-four items, twelve are on parchment and thirty-two on paper. The lands are described as in the parishes of Llangattock vibon Avel, St Maughans, Rochfield, the hamlets of Dixton and Orlaston, the parish of Monmouth, and the town of Monmouth. 44 Items, some slightly mutilated, but generally in good condition.

In six items the marginal heading is 'Manor of Monmouth with members' and, in the seventh and last dated, 'Manor of Monmouth and Hadnock'. Henry Milborne of Lanrothell, esq., with Charles Milborne, esq., and John Price of Trerw, gent., as his deputies, and John Price of Trerw appear as chief stewards within the parishes indicated above. The lands are described as in the parishes of Rochfield, Monmouth, Llangattock vibon Avel, and Dixton, and in the town of Monmouth. 7 Items, all on paper, margins slightly mutilated but legible throughout.

There is also a power of attorney on parchment, 17 Aug. 1675. A file of 24 items, of which 19 are paper, some of 2 leaves, and 5 are parchment. All the items, especially the paper ones, are badly damaged by damp.

A File of proceedings (certified copies) before the Council of the Marches of Wales in a suit between Walter Powell, complainant, and William Powell, defendant, consisting of:. 1. Bill of Complaint of Walter Powell of Llanyssen, gent. his father David Philipp Powell, gent., deceased, was seised in fee according to the custom of the lordship or manor of Caldicott of a customary messuage and tenement and divers customary lands in the parish of Lanvihangell tormenyth and so seised died about 30 years ago, by whose decease the premises (of yearly value of £20) descended by the custom of the manor (being in the nature of Borough English) to complainant as youngest son, being he an infant of the age of three years. William Powell of Lanpillth, esq., immeadiately after the death of his father and during complainant's minority entered and for 18 years received the rents and profits to his own use (as complainant's tutor and guardian) so receiving £340, complainant entered when he was 21 years of age and enjoyed the premises until defendant by colour of having gotten into his custody diverse ancient deeds and court roll mentioning the custom aforesaid entered and detained, by which he is in arrears to complainant since he was 21 in the sum of 300 marks, making a total since his father's death of £493. 2. Answer of defendant to bill of complaint. The lands alleged to be customary are freehold or charter hold held in socage of the manor and lordship of Caldicott, which descended of right to defendant as son and heir. 3. Replication of complainant. 4. Process at Ludlowe, 26 October 1604. Order for examination of witnesses.

Two of the courts relate to the manor of Court Peers, Court Shelton and Tir Thomas ap David, one to Bryndehirog, and one to Trepatchett and Llanfair vibon Owen. (I) Court Peers etc., 1 April-20 Oct. 1617. Begins: Manor of Court Peers, Court Shelton, and teere Thomas ap David: Court held there 1 April, 15 James I, 1617. Of the two courts of the first consists of three presentments by the jury on ways in decay and the second of four presentments and encroachments on a bridge between the parish of Wolvesnewton and Langynock called Pont [pis]till and the way from the parish of Wolvesnewton to a bridge called Pont Winfordd in decay. (Ii) Begins: Manor of Bryndehyrocke: Court held there 30 April 1618. These proceedings consist of three presentments by the jury of a death, a way in decay, and an estray. (Iii) Begins: Trekaprachett and Lanveyre vibon Owen: [Court held] there 29 April 1618. These proceedings consist of four presentments by the jury of horseways in decay. A single leaf, foolscap, from a court book, fair condition.
