Tithe rentals,

Tithe rentals compiled by the steward of the co. Brec. estate. These rentals and for other years missing from this series appear in BBA2. BBA4/1 are rentals for the tithes and glebe lands in p's Cwm-du and Crickhowell; BBA4/2 for Crickhowell only, BBA4/5 for p. Llaneliw, and BBA4/6 for p's Llangattock, Llanelly and Llangenny.

Steward's account books,

Rents of the port of Chepstow,

Rents of river dues paid by ships for using the river Wye, 1723-1733 and 1788, giving the dates of payment, name and port of each ship, name of each master and the amount of money due. Arranged chronologically, by quarter. BMA5/19 gives rents for four quarters and BMA5/20 for seven quarters. A rental for 1789 is at BMM1/1.

Rentals, second series,

This series contains rentals and accounts of arrears and disbursements submitted by Henry Harding, receiver of the co. Mon. estate until 1758 and thereafter by Silas Blandford, steward. It appears that man's Woolaston and Tidenham in Gloucestershire came within the remit of the receiver of the co. Mon. estate until 1760, when they disappear from the rentals All are annual rents and accounts, except for BMA3/20-21 which are half yearly. This is the main series of annual rentals for the Monmouthshire estate. The rentals also include details of additional or casual income from other sources such as timber, quarries and tithes. The first appearance of such sources are noted, together with other relevant dates. Income from the sale of timber and wood first appears in 1760 and continues without gaps to the end of the series. Income from stone quarries first appears in 1761 and continues with gaps until 1921. Income from waifs and strays also first appears in 1761 and continues with gaps until the end of the series. Income from tunnage and anchorage appears in 1761 only. Income from turnpike securities first appears in 1762 and continues with gaps until 1839. Income from port fees also first appears in 1762 and continues with gaps until 1868. Income from tithes first appears in 1765 and continues without gaps. Rentals, first series,

This series consists of rentals of all or the most substantial part of the co. Mon. estate from 1612 to 1718 and it includes the earliest, extant rentals for the estate held by the Library The series contain substantial gaps and vary in terms of lands where rents were collected. All the rentals are arranged by man's apart from BMA2/1-2. Three of these rentals (BMA2/5, 9, 12) were exhibited in the Courts of Exchequer and Chancery in 1727 and 1731 respectively in a dispute between Henry, duke of Beaufort, infant, complainant, and John Scott and William Dunwoodie, gent's, defendants, and between Henry, duke of Beaufort, complainant, and Mathew Powell, esq., defendant. Rentals: third series,

BGA3/1 is a continuation in a bound volume of BGA2/1-21, except that BGA2/1-21 are the copies of the collector of rents for lp Gower, whilst BGA3/1 is the copy of Thomas Gardiner, receiver of the estate. BGA3/2 is a copy of BGA2/21 and of the rental of the co. Glam. estate for 1744-5 in BA1/8. They include details of disbursements, such as land taxes, poor rates and repairs.

Rentals: second series,

Loose sheets of rentals found inside GA3/1. These are the copies of the collector of rents for the lordship of Gower in the man's and p's specified above. All the rentals include details of receipts for sale of coal and, from 1729, for the sale of timber. Many of the sheets are damaged at the edges.

Rentals of individual manors and groups of manors,

Rentals of individual or groups of man's compiled by the collector - usually the bailiff - responsible for collecting the rents within each man. or group. Most of the rentals in BMA1/1-3 have been removed from Badminton Group II. Previous reference numbers are given where appropriate. Other manorial rentals are sometimes included in the bailiffs' account in BMD. For accounts of rent arrears submitted by the bailiffs see BMC1.

Crickhowell. Many of the rentals are duplicates and there are triplicate copies for the years 1761 and 1813 and 1815. They have been audited with the exception of 1789, 1801, 1833, 1903, 1922 and 1933. The rentals also include details of income from other sources, such as from the sale of timber and wood, mines, and tithes. The first appearance of such sources are noted, together with other relevant dates. Income from lime kilms first appears in 1780 and continues with gaps until 1926. Sale of timber and wood first appears in 1786 and continues with gaps until 1932. Income from mines first appears in 1791 and continues with gaps until 1878.
