Has appealed to the Minister of Transport for more money for major improvement schemes on trunk roads in Montgomery, but the request has been rejected. Asks Clement Davies to take up the matter with the Minister concerned, and lists the improvements which need to be effected in the County.

Concerns the Development Plan for Welshpool. Plans for the construction of a bus and car park near the White Lion were scrapped by the Ministry of Transport in 1953. This precipitated the resignation of Alderman Lloyd Owen. Encloses an information sheet giving key dates associated with the proposed development. Information sheet attached.

Proposes to cancel the 'Caller Office' service at Llanfyllin because the demand is not longer sufficient.

The Council deplores the proposal to close the Llanfyllin Office and registers a protest on behalf of its users. The number of callers seems to exceed the number stated, and many would be loathe to use correspondence in place of personal visits. Journeys to Welshpool would be inconvenient and lengthy, nor would Oswestry be an acceptable alternative to Welsh people.

The sluice gate at the inlet end of the mill race previously prevented flooding, but the lifting sluice has now been carried away from the framework. It is the responsibility of Mr Jones at the Mill to rectify matters.

The tenant denies responsibility for brushing the hedge, and a verbal agreement may well have existed on the matter. The Meifod Electricity Co. should also take steps to repair the sluice gate.

Tenants should maintain all hedges and fences on their holdings. Will write to Edwards again on the matter, but any further action is a matter for the tenant and the Company.

The Council, as owners of the fence, are surely responsible to maintain it Mr E. Jones of the Mill asserts that Edwards has previously looked after the fence himself. Is the Council disclaiming ownership of the fence?. Copy.

Four months have elapsed since the matter was first raised, and no satisfactory outcome has transpired. Does the Council disclaim ownership of the fence?. Draft.

The attitude of the Committee seems unreasonable. The Weir across the river was raised in accordance with the desire of the Committee in order that the supply of water down the mill race should be brought under control. Copy.

Cannot presume to anticipate the views the Committee will adopt. Has not expressed any desire to have the sluice gate size increased, and the question regarding an increase in the height of the Weir remains unanswered.

It is unclear in what capacity the Council is acting in this matter. Power rests with the Conservancy Board. Clement Davies knows the locality and the facts and approves of the contents of this letter. Copy.
