[ ] Davies, Brynmafon, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth. Wishes to express his admiration for Huw T. Edwards's bravery in resigning from the Chairmanship of the Council for Wales. The hearts of the Whitehall officials will be compelled to melt. The same motives impelled the writer to resign from the chair of the Carmarthenshire branch of the National Farmers' Union three years previously in order to set up the Farmers' Union of Wales. It is evident that Huw T. Edwards has a vision and a policy for the future of Wales. Would very much like to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Huw T. Edwards to implement his plan. Would like to meet him for a conversation. Welsh.

[ ]. Is addressing this letter to the leaders of the various political parties within Flintshire as a result of the interference on the matter of the question of the Director of Education. The Director did make a mistake in tendering his resignation and then overseeing the drawing up of a short list of candidates for the vacant post. He subsequently offered to remain in the employ of Flintshire County Council, and it was agreed to cancel the interviews for the post. There is considerable pressure on the County Council not to re-engage Dr Williams. Outlines some of Dr Williams's many achievements which have been of great benefit to the county of Flintshire. Hopes that these services will not be forgotten at a time of crisis.

[ ] Lloyd, Home Office, Whitehall, London SW1. The death of Sir Archibald Rowlands has been a great blow to the Committee. Has sent a message of sympathy to Lady Rowlands. The Home Secretary has resolved to appoint Sir Wilfrid Eady to the Committee to take Sir Archibald's place.

[ ] Many thanks for Tros y Tresi which he found fascinating and stimulating to read. The writer in now in his nineties, and can recall the struggles for religious and political freedom which extend back over the last seventy years. All his friends agree that the foremost characteristics of the book are its sincerity and its incentive and encouragement to work on behalf of Wales. He is one of the few still alive who can recall thinking that the world was sure to come to an end at the death of Gladstone in 1898!.

[ ] Swancot. Has to write as three minutes on the telephone would not be sufficient to thank the new Owain Glyndr of Wales. Huw T. Edwards's resignation is the most sensational, most hopeful event which has occurred in twentieth century Wales. Huw T. Edwards has become the hero of the whole of Wales. Pleads with Huw T. Edwards to retain all his correspondence for the writer to read. Much regrets his decision to go to the Continent the very time the dawn was breaking for Wales. Hopes to meet Huw T. Thanks for the letter about the Welsh Games. Regrets his error in confusing Maindy Stadium with the Barracks. Hopes that it is now quite clear that it is the Barracks which the Welsh Games Council would like to secure as their National Sports Centre. Gives the background to the establishment of the Games Council and details of its current membership and activities. Gives this information following a question in the House of Commons by Donald Box, MP, which the writer assumes he will be pursuing further. Anything which the recipient can do to further the intentions of the Council is to be warmly welcomed. Mr Tom Davies will forward to the recipient an invitation to the Welsh Games and the Programme of Events.

Edwards could not then accept the invitation. Now wishes to extend to Huw T. Edwards an invitation to view his murals privately. Incomplete.

[ ], 19 Easterly Crescent, Leeds 8. Would like to congratulate Huw T. Edwards on the 'blunt forthrightness' with which he made his statement on home rule on the television. Although it is daily becoming more apparent that honest and democratic argument will bring nothing to Wales in this connection, it is a courageous act for Huw T. Edwards to speak out. Abysmal ignorance prevails in England on the subject; the English have an absolute monopoly of the House of Commons and are in a position to out-vote the Welsh, the Scots and the Irish if need be. There is a critical need for Welsh opinions to be formed and guided on these matters. The weakness of the press all too often poisons Welsh opinions. A truly national daily newspaper - in ownership and distribution - would be a great asset to Wales. At the moment Wales has to rely on her prominent public figures, and often they prove defective. Only the efforts of the Welsh people can bring real prosperity to Wales in the future. The most auspicious beginning for Wales is 'independence and a proper control of our own resources and destiny'. Hopes that the Tryweryn Conference will prove a success. Much depends on the ability of its Chairman and the contribution of the individual speakers. Edwards for all the help, kindness and consideration which he has always given her.

Edwards in the pages of Y Cymro from time to time, about his work for the cause of Wales within different societies. They wish to congratulate Huw T. Edwards on his great work following the report in a recent number of Y Cymro that he had resigned his position with the Welsh Tourist Board. They hope that he will enjoy his retirement. Has many times hoped to meet Huw T. Edwards, and his dream came true with his visit to Patagonia recently. Possibly Huw T. Edwards may remember the writer addressing the meeting at Drofa Dulog chapel welcoming the pilgrims. Huw T. Edwards has by now seen Patagonia for himself; what impression did he gain and what is his opinion on the place? Huw T.
