Y Garth Lloyd, Tybrith and Mathebrwd, Llanrwst

The file comprises a grant, 1575, by Ellis ap Thomas Vaughan of Llys Waen to Robert ap Thomas ap Howell ap Robyn, of Y Garth Lloyd and other lands in the townships of Tybrith and Mathebrwd, amongst the lands of Thomas ap Howell ap Robyn, which Ellis's father, Thomas Vaughan ap Robert had recovered against David Pryce, alias David Lloyd ap Robert ap Rees. The property may have been part of the lands mentioned in the marriage settlement of a later Robert ap Thomas of Mathebrwd, 1654, or it may have belonged to Llwyn Gronw; the connection is not clear.

The file comprises deeds for Llwyn Gronw estate in the township of Mathebrwd, 1693-1700, which was purchased by Hugh Roberts from the mortgagee of Robert Thomas in 1700, subject to life estates in one of the properties, Rhydlydan, to R.T. and Mary his wife, their daughter, Margaret Roberts, Hugh Roberts and his son, Thomas Hughes. [In his will, proved 1715, Hugh Roberts devised Llwyn Gronw to his son, Thomas Hughes, then to T.H. 's eldest son, Robert Hughes. The premises were in turn inherited by Robert's younger brother, John Hughes, who devised all his lands to his daughter, Jane, by his will, proved 1760].

Will of William Middelton of Clicedig, Llanrhaeadr-yng-nghinmeirch

The file comprises an administration with will annexed of William Middelton of Clicedig, dated 9 Oct. 1661; bequests include 5s towards repair of Llanrhaeadr church, money to his son, John, due to the testator from John Salusbury the younger of Bachegraig, and other bequests to relations.

The file comprises a duplicate conveyance, 1891, by W.D.W. Griffith to trustees of the will of Robert Hughes of Rhyl, of land in Cae Pen y Maes in the township of Trelewelyn near Rhyl, intended by R.H. to be used as a public footpath, with a drainage ditch alongside, shown on an integral map.

The file comprises a lease, 1699, by Richard Evans to Hugh Roberts of Gwydir, of parcels called Blaen y ddol, y Berllan Newydd, Cae'r Eglwys, Llether Gwynne, and a cottage called Ty yn y Ffynon. Some of these lands appear in an agreement made prior to the marriage settlement of Jane Evans, daughter of John Evans and grand daughter of R.E., 1699.

The file comprises a notebook containing brewing accounts of ale, table beer and wine, 1790-1827.

The series comprises inventories of household items removed from Garn for specific purposes, instructions for management of servants, printed advertisements, 1781-[1838], lists of garden seeds and plants [1784x1834].

Recipes

The series comprises recipes of various types: veterinary, 1730-1767, medical and cosmetic, 1759-1810, household and culinary, 1772-1808, and miscellaneous combinations of those types, 1725, 1769-1790, mainly manuscript, a few cut from newspapers.

Griffith family settlements (John Griffith (3))

The file comprises articles of agreement and a bond for observance of covenants prior to the marriage of John Griffith (3) of Garn and Jane Hughes of Weeg, 1762, containing, among other stipulations, the provision for Jane of a life annuity of £80 out of her husband's estate in Henllan and St Asaph and instructions to the trustees to raise £3000 to be used as he should direct; both stipulations later contributed to financial disagreements between Jane and her son, which were finally settled in 1801. The file also contains a bond by John Griffith, dated 1783, to pay £200 and interest to his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hughes, in trust for Jane.

Griffith family settlements (George Griffith)

The file comprises articles of agreement, 1835, by George Griffith with his younger brothers and his brother-in-law, John Price now of Llanrhaiadr Hall, for raising £2000 on Tan Llan, Llanefydd, to benefit William Henry Griffith and his sister, Harriet Price, following the realisation that the provisions of John Wynne Griffith's will for payment of the money were inadequate; the marriage settlement of George Griffith of Garn and Charlotte Maria Douglas of Gyrn, 1836, preceded by a disentailing deed for enlarging the estate in tail by the addition of allotments of common land; disentailment of Tan Llan and other Denbighshire and Flintshire properties, 1863, to enable completion of payment to John Price, in accordance with the agreement of 1835.
