Owen Williams Collection

A letter, 1920, to J. Lloyd Williams, from John Griffith, Dolgellau, enclosing the tune book of Owen Williams, bearing the date 'Jany 17. 1808' and containing numerous folk tunes. Other papers containing miscellaneous hymn and folk tunes are enclosed, together with a letter, [?1887/1857], addressed to Mr Griffith Price, Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, apparently from his uncle, William ab Gruffudd, Plas Llanwnda.

Caernarfon Eisteddfod, 1921

A manuscript music book containing a list of songs entered by 'Eos y Gogledd' for competition at Caernarfon Eisteddfod, 1921, and a few English tunes and hymn tunes; together with 45 songs, some apparently annotated in the hand of Mary Davies who adjudicated the competition.

Songs and correspondence

Folk songs, traditional tunes and verses, some with related letters from collectors and bearing provenance notes. Many, however, contain no details relating to provenance. A number were recorded by, and are in the hand of, Mary Davies. A few hymn-tunes and carols are also included.

Eisteddfodau

Collections of folk songs, some of which were entered for competition at the London Eisteddfod, 1909, and another group for the Carmarthen Eisteddfod, 1911, the latter containing annotations by Mary Davies. Folk songs from various other sources are also included; together with transcripts from the Llanover MSS, and a list of Ylltyr Williams MSS held at Bangor University Library.

Folk songs and press cuttings

Mainly folk songs and a few press cuttings. A number of songs were recorded by J. Lloyd Williams from the singing of family members and some items are transcripts from Mrs Grace Gwyneddon Davies's manuscripts. Provenance notes are included.

Contributions, consisting of folk songs and sacred music, from various individuals to J. Lloyd Williams for publication in Y Cerddor. They include songs and arrangements by David de Lloyd and T. Hopkin Evans. Related letters are also sometimes included.

Nicholas Bennett

An index on paper slips, in J. Lloyd Williams's hand, of folk tunes and songs found mainly in the work of Nicholas Bennett. References supporting his candidature for the Chair of Botany at Aberystwyth in 1903 appear on the verso of some slips.

Lists of titles of tunes from manuscripts held at the National Library of Wales, and extracts relating to Welsh music; together with 'A list of the most important collections of Welsh Traditional Songs'.

Libretto --

Manuscript and typescript drafts and an annotated printed copy of the libretto; together with stage directions and a synopsis of the plot. A copy of the printed programme of a performance of the work at Aberystwyth in 1922 is also included.

An unbound copy, [?1944], of Y Tri Thelynor, and two annotated typescript drafts. Correspondence, 1943-1944, relating to the publication of the work, together with photographs and miscellaneous notes, are also included.
