The tune-book originally belonged to Owen Williams, Bwlch, Pentraeth, Anglesey. It later came into the possession of D. R. Mills, Maldwyn House, Dolgellau, and eventually, through Mrs Mills, to John Griffith of the County School, Dolgellau.

A letter, 1920, to J. Lloyd Williams, from John Griffith, Dolgellau, enclosing the tune book of Owen Williams, bearing the date 'Jany 17. 1808' and containing numerous folk tunes. Other papers containing miscellaneous hymn and folk tunes are enclosed, together with a letter, [?1887/1857], addressed to Mr Griffith Price, Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, apparently from his uncle, William ab Gruffudd, Plas Llanwnda.
