Transcripts of Clive's country letter books

The series comprises transcripts of Clive's original 'Country letter books', 1756-1767, now NLW, Clive of India Papers CR2. The contents of four of the original letter books have been transcribed in a single volume.

Transcripts of letters from England to Clive

The series comprises a transcript of letters, 1764-1766(now British Library MSS Eur.G 37, boxes c. 30-42), received by Clive from England whilst on his voyage to, and during his last period of residence in, India.

Transcripts of letters in India to Clive

The series comprises transcripts of letters, 1765-1766, (now British Library MSS Eur.G 37, boxes c. 30-42),written in India to Clive during his second and last term as governor of Bengal. The letters relate mainly to military affairs (returns and movements of troops, accounts of military disbursements, etc.); administrative matters (filling vacancies to the Council and to chiefships of stations,etc.); financial concerns (collection of revenues, the salt trade,etc.); and to relationships with the native princes.

Transcripts of papers relating to the Bengal expedition

The series consists of transcripts of extracts, 23 June to 29 Sept. 1756, from the consultations at Fort St. David to the proceedings of the Select Committee at Fort St. George, Madras, relating to the expedition for the recovery of the East India Company's settlements in Bengal.
